WARNING: boob talk ahead

WARNING: boob talk ahead

Last night I spent 2 hours trying on clothes at Kohl’s. It has to be the most frustrating 2 hours OF MY LIFE. It’s not just that I have a few extra pounds to lose from having a baby. I’m fine with that, I’ve accepted it, that’s just how it is. And heck, it’s only… KEEP READING »

battle of the baby bulge

battle of the baby bulge

Some of you may remember a few years ago when I had a weight-loss blog where I tracked my adventure of losing 23 pounds and a total of something like 17 inches off of various parts of my body. It took a good year to do it, but it worked. And I kept it off… KEEP READING »

Maggie’s birth story

Maggie’s birth story

Okay, here it is! I’ve written this in several different sittings over the past week… hopefully it’s not too choppy or random. I wanted to get everything down in words before I forgot my emotions and thoughts and little details. Tuesday morning (March 27) I had my 38 week appointment with my OB. The previous… KEEP READING »

Baby Girl Lyker arrives

Baby Girl Lyker arrives

As my sister posted in the comments yesterday… the baby is here! Margaret Elise Lyker – we’ll be calling her Maggie. 6lbs 11oz, 19 1/4 inches long, born 12:42pm on March 28, 2007. We’re in love. And tired. And happy. And overwhelmed. And it’s fantastic. I’ll post more later, of course. There are some fun… KEEP READING »

cervix watch 2007

cervix watch 2007

Never before in my life did I think I’d say the words, “Gee, I hope I get some good news about my cervix today!” Nor did I ever thing I’d share the news so willingly and happily with perfect strangers on the internet. Pregnancy does weird things to your self-respect inhibitions. At my doctor’s appointment… KEEP READING »

pregnancy brain

pregnancy brain

So today I’ve reached a new level of stupidity: I forgot my phone number. I was leaving a message for a customer of mine (we’ve been playing ‘phone tag’ for the last day or so) and the woman taking the message asked for my number. I have a business phone and I gave her that… KEEP READING »

the baby’s room is DONE!

the baby’s room is DONE!

FINALLY. The room used to look like this. We slowly got rid of all of that junk with several trips to good will, and it turned into this. Then we did all of this: new carpet (this was actually done this summer, right before we found out about the Little Turd’s existence) painted the crown… KEEP READING »

perspective

perspective

I find it amusing now that I thought I looked SO PREGNANT in this picture (taken 17 weeks ago) And now, I can’t even remember what it was like to look or feel that small. I FEEL LIKE A COW. At 37 weeks pregnant, everything is just so difficult to do- even normal stuff, like… KEEP READING »

all about my cervix

all about my cervix

Today was my 36 week doctors appointment, and my cervix got all checked out for the first time. The status? 2cm dilated. 50% effaced (or ‘thinned out’). Baby’s head is ‘pretty low’, to quote the doctor (which explains the sudden and sometimes extreme difficulty in walking- again with the ‘head in the crotch‘ explanation) Of… KEEP READING »

this is my world

this is my world

I’ve been such a terrible blogger lately, I know. It’s the middle of March, and I’ve only posted 3 times so far this month! I’m so ashamed. Excuses? I don’t really have any… at least not any good ones. I’ve been busy of course… but aren’t we all? I’m still frantically working to finish up… KEEP READING »

The carseat is installed. By this weekend, I’ll be considered ‘full term’. Baby can come whenever she wants now, I give her full permission!

35 weeks

35 weeks

I haven’t had a bad pregnancy, really. I’ve heard such horror stories from other women and read stories of 9-month-long bouts of nausea, extreme weight gain, various complications, etc. I was a little sick at first, but it didn’t last much past 13 weeks or so. I’ve had the usual things- heartburn and sleeping and… KEEP READING »

busy weekend

busy weekend

So we had quite the busy weekend… so much so that yesterday I was TIRED. It seems like it always catches up with me the next day, like last weekend after the baby shower, on Monday I felt like I was hungover. We weren’t even really busy with social events- just things around the house,… KEEP READING »

the transformation

the transformation

Sunday was my baby shower, and it’s taken me until today to recover! Amazing how tiring opening gifts and eating yummy snacks and appetizers can be :) It was a great party, my sister and mom did an awesome job and everything was fantastic (after the morning drama with the ice storm / church closure… KEEP READING »

unending support

unending support

During last night’s Prepared Childbirth class, after the instructor showed us a true-to-scale diagram of the stages of dilation from 0 to 10cm: Dan turns to me, and says just loud enough for the people around us to hear: “Have fun with THAT.”

nature’s preparation

nature’s preparation

All of my life, I have been a Champion Sleeper. I can sleep AWESOMELY. I rarely have had a sleepless night or any form of insomnia, except for if I had a really bad cold or something. And sleeping in- something I looooooooove to do. Suddenly, with a little over 6 weeks to go until… KEEP READING »

reality starts to set in. and all is okay.

reality starts to set in. and all is okay.

This past weekend, we spent some time with our friends who just had their third child 2 weeks ago. A little boy, and goodness he was precious! I was a little bit anxious about being around a baby right now. Which might sound weird, since I’m just 7 weeks away from having one of my… KEEP READING »

pregnancy is so glamorous

pregnancy is so glamorous

Y’all. This is embarrassing. But. I have a tiny scab on the inside of my belly button. And by inside, I really mean what used to be the inside, and has now become more like the outside of my belly button as I get further into my pregnancy. And that sensitive skin that’s been hidden… KEEP READING »

oh my aching pelvis

oh my aching pelvis

As I mentioned yesterday, the past few days have been crazy. Or at least, crazy for what I’m used to lately. Friday night we went out on a ‘date’ (we figure we’d better get them in now while we still can!) We had dinner at Thai Place and then headed to some furniture stores in… KEEP READING »

excuse me while I crash

excuse me while I crash

First, you guys are doing great with the name suggestions- I’m loving this game! Some of them we’ve actually been considering already, others we were considering before but nixed them for various reasons, etc. But yay- keep ‘em coming! In other news, I had a really long day today and I’m exhausted. So instead of… KEEP READING »

baby names

No, we didn’t pick one yet. And no, we’re not going to share our final choice with anyone until after the little darling is born (sorry, Corrie!) But, Janet posted a comment yesterday mentioning having a baby naming contest on my blog. I’m not sure how a contest would work since we’re being all secretive… KEEP READING »

My long-time friend Kristy just had her 3rd baby last night! Both are doing well :) Hearing this news of course makes me think about… KEEP READING »

Jen: I think I’ll get a shower now, maybe the hot water will feel good on my hips. They’ve really been bothering me today. Sometimes it feels so good to let the hot water hit them and loosen them up. Dan: And let the hot water cascade over your moo-ness. Jen: I’m hungry! Why am… KEEP READING »

you know you’re jealous you missed the party

you know you’re jealous you missed the party

What did you do on your Friday night? Me…? Well… I reorganized my kitchen cabinets, that’s what. Dan and I were arguing over who was the bigger dork: me for what I was doing, or him for watching a nature show. Do we know how to party or what? You may remember a few weeks… KEEP READING »

don’t mess with a hormonal pregnant woman

don’t mess with a hormonal pregnant woman

So do you remember those dishes I ordered? The ones that came last week, broken? We took them back to the store last week one evening (Dan had to carry them in for me, ’cause ya know, I’m all big-bellied and everything) and they accepted the return and ordered me a new box that would… KEEP READING »

I have work I need to do, work I HAVE to do, but my brain. won’t. work. So instead, I’m watching Felicity Season 3 on DVD and feeling my baby girl kick inside my belly. It’s way more fun.

all baby, all the time

all baby, all the time

Lots of baby and pregnancy-related stuff in the past few days! First, on Thursday I went to have my glucose screening. Overall it wasn’t too bad, except I was so tired right after I drank the orange sugary stuff. I seriously could have laid down and taken a nap right there in the waiting room,… KEEP READING »

recap of my last few days. it’s boring. sorry.

recap of my last few days. it’s boring. sorry.

Hi. I’m still around, I promise. I’ve just been busy with boring stuff that doesn’t really give me much to blog about. For example, fighting off a cold. Kinda boring. It involves me this past weekend, forcing myself to stay on the couch and rest my pregnant butt rather than do all of the things… KEEP READING »
