Audrey is rapidly approaching three-and-a-half, by FAR my least favorite age with Maggie. THREENAGERS. Such big feelings! Such terrible communication skills! Audrey is definitely living up to the age so far, stubborn and meltdown-y and emotional and all the things that come with age three. But she is also HILARIOUS and loves making people laugh… KEEP READING »

eight weeks down

So! Here we are! Eight weeks into the school year, eight weeks on this side of maternity leave, eight weeks of lunches packed and homework done and bottles filled and diaper bags stocked and tantrums over what dress we want to wear to daycare today! (see if you can take a guess on that last… KEEP READING »

getting tangled up with a Rapunzel birthday party

getting tangled up with a Rapunzel birthday party

(Sorry about the title. I couldn’t resist.) Audrey turned three on Saturday. So, real talk: I know big, elaborate parties for kids aren’t everybody’s thing. And that’s totally fine! But you know what? I LOVE PLANNING THESE PARTIES. I love picking a theme and coming up with decorating ideas and scouring the internet for pictures… KEEP READING »

three years goes FAST

Oh, Audrey. Our quintessential middle child. Basically every stereotype I’ve ever heard about middle children is true for Audrey so far. She sucks up all the attention in any room she enters, with her crazy hair and her giant blue eyes and her still-slightly-chubby cheeks, all in an apparent effort not to be overlooked. And… KEEP READING »

he only has himself to blame

he only has himself to blame

In our house, affection is often shown by gentle teasing and picking on each other. For the 16 (!!!) years Dan and I have been together, we’ve joked around together, laughing at both of our faults and traits and we’re OKAY with that. It’s how we are. I can laugh at myself! I can take… KEEP READING »

This kid has gone from a few simple words back in July and August (and some *slight* concern on our part about her lack of talking compared to where Maggie was at just-before-two) to telling stories, joking around, and talking in more complete thoughts and sentences than I think Maggie did at 2 1/2. Amazing…. KEEP READING »

I don’t even have an intro for this. Just watch. (Then watch Maggie a few months older, singing the same song. ha)

this boot was made for walking

So! Thanks to having smart doctor-friends from college, I was able to use our magical connections to get Audrey in quickly on Friday afternoon to see an orthopedic specialist about her janky foot. The verdict? A break. A very small, hard-to-see on an x-ray kind of a break, but apparently that’s common in small kids… KEEP READING »

It’s been way too long since I’ve cataloged some of the ridiculous things Audrey says and does. This KID, you guys. I swear, 4 months ago, she was barely speaking more than 4 or 5 words and now, I’m having full conversations with her. And the stuff she comes up with makes me LAUGH sometimes… KEEP READING »

Lamest title ever, but I’m tired and feeling un-creative. Here, let me show you my cute kids in full technicolor action! Last week we surprised Maggie with tickets to this summer’s Taylor Swift concert. She was slightly excited (and I’m not gonna lie: I’m pretty psyched about taking her to her first concert!) Audrey’s new… KEEP READING »

concert in the toy room, 7pm. be there.

The weather is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter, which means less time spent outside playing after dinner in the evenings. But don’t worry. Our girls are keeping PLENTY busy, what with all the fabulous concerts they’re performing for us throughout the week. (Watch till the end. Or skip to the end, whatever…. KEEP READING »

insta-review of our days

insta-review of our days

I just had to load my own blog’s front page to remember what I wrote about last because I couldn’t even remember. And it was only a week and a half ago! Feels like longer. Hi! How are you guys? I’ll skip the whole OMG SO BUSY HOLY CRAP WHOOOOAAA! and just say that life… KEEP READING »

7 quick takes: the How Things Are Going edition

1. Maggie is loving kindergarten. Her favorite things are the bus ride and recess, because DUH. She also loves computer class day and library day (but not so much gym day because all they’ve done so far is laps of skipping and hopping and stuff and she wants desperately to go on the exercise bikes… KEEP READING »

Oh, my dear, sweet, crazy girl. Two years ago today, I was putting on my makeup in the morning and suddenly started having chest pains. When you call your doctor at 38.5 weeks pregnant and say the words ‘chest pains’ and ‘contractions’… you’ve pretty much bought yourself a ticket to labor and delivery. So we… KEEP READING »

catch up

I feel like I’m constantly playing catch up these days, but whatever. LIFE, MAN. We survived the first week of kindergarten (Maggie did great! I never did get a nap out of her! She’s a trooper.) and then had a three-day weekend in which we… didn’t do much, actually. We spent some time with Dan’s… KEEP READING »

right in our own backyard

right in our own backyard

The past few weeks have been busy with random things- a wedding, a baby shower, a mall trip for school shopping, etc etc- plus there have been some crazy stormy days, mixed in with some steamy, too hot to even THINK about going outside days. So we haven’t had much time to just hang out… KEEP READING »

A couple of months ago, I started worrying. Just a little bit. I tried to ignore it and tell myself that even though Audrey was only saying a few simple words and by this age, Maggie was nearly speaking sentences and saying complicated words, IT WAS OKAY AND AUDREY WAS FINE. Every kid develops at… KEEP READING »

One of Audrey’s first real words (besides ‘Mommy’ and ‘Daddy’, etc) was ‘MINE!’ Which, I guess for a second child is kind of natural. Poor kid doesn’t really have ANYTHING that is just hers, so she spends a large majority of her day making sure you understand that whatever she is holding in her hand… KEEP READING »

So! May! TOTALLY FREAKING INSANE, RIGHT?? June, I’m happy to see you. Please be kind. With the dawning of June comes what we hope is the last chapter of Audrey’s Swollen Neck Saga. We had her post-op checkup with her surgeon on Friday and got the details on the lab results and he checked the… KEEP READING »

run, Audrey, run!

(We’re slowly getting back to ‘normal’ life after last week’s craziness. Normal is of course in quotes, because who the heck KNOWS what normal is anymore. Audrey is doing well- her neck is still swollen but we’re hoping/pretty sure it’s just because of the surgery. We have a follow-up appointment scheduled later this week with… KEEP READING »

The great, awesome, spectacular news: We’re home! Audrey was discharged from the hospital last night around 6pm, and I’ll tell you what: I’m pretty sure I could win a contest for Who Can Pack Up A Hospital Room The Fastest. No contest. Everyone slept like good little rocks last night. Hooray and Amen. The bad… KEEP READING »

in which a very nice surgeon takes a knife to my baby’s neck

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you most likely know the story of the past few days. But if not, here you go… :) After being admitted to the hospital again on Saturday night, the short story is this: the new antibiotics didn’t do much for Audrey’s lymph node swelling, so after… KEEP READING »

round two

So we’re back in the hospital. Sigh. She was almost finished with her 10-day course of oral antibiotics, and we noticed in the past few days that the lump was swelling again. Rather than wait until morning, we came to the ER last night (I don’t know that I would have been able to sleep… KEEP READING »

Yeah yeah yeah, I know you’re probably sick of hearing about The Great Hospital Trip Of 2012, but there are a few random stories I want to share, and most importantly, I want to record them here so we’ll remember. Thank you all for your prayers and notes and well-wishes the past few days. We SO appreciate all the love!! It was very scary at first, but Audrey is doing well and hopefully after another week of regular antibiotics, she can kick this infection for good! She certainly has the attitude for it :)

Audrey’s Big Adventure

Audrey’s Big Adventure

Well! Things for Audrey took a dramatic turn yesterday. We visited her pediatrician on Monday afternoon as a follow-up to last week’s ER visit, and my concern (and the dr’s) was that after 5 days of amoxicillin, there was no change at all in the swelling along her jaw. She was acting mostly normal- maybe… KEEP READING »
