CHOCOLATE! and Market District coffee (giveaway)

I never drank coffee until I had my second baby. Perhaps it was necessary for my survival at that point? Audrey WAS a particularly challenging newborn. I don’t even know what made me try it or make it part of my morning routine, but now I love it. I don’t drink a lot of it- usually just one cup in the morning with breakfast- but if I DON’T have coffee in the morning? The day is ruined.*

*possibly an exaggeration

The fun part about coffee is that everybody likes something different. Some people are weird like Dan and drink it nearly black with nothing but a splash of milk. Some people are like me and like it with some fun flavored creamer and tons of milk (more of a latte, I guess? I may drink coffee but I’m kind of Coffee-Dumb and never know the right lingo for all the combinations!) Dan and I may have different coffee tastes, but we both love trying new coffee roasts and flavors. We have a bean grinder and a fancy-schmancy single-cup brewer thingie he got through a rewards program at work, so our coffee lives are pretty complete.

Giant Eagle Market District sent me a lovely sampling of their new coffee roasts to try, along with some other goodies. Their new coffee roasts are made with premium grade 100% Arabica beans for a bold, rich flavor.

Market District coffee

Hazelnut coffee is one of our favorites. And I tried the Jamaican blend last week and it was delicious! I was a little nervous because it says MEDIUM ROAST and for a girlie-coffee drinker like me, sometimes anything beyond a light roast is too much, but it had the perfect amount of flavor and aroma without making me feel overwhelmed (I get OVERWHELMED by strong coffee! Sorry.) I haven’t tried the Italian Roast yet for just that reason, but I’m sure it’s also delicious if you like a stronger coffee. I’ll leave that one for Dan The Intense Coffee Lover. But next time I’m at the grocery store, I’ll be likely to grab a bag of the light or medium roasts.

As if three bags of yummy coffee wasn’t enough, I was also given a travel coffee mug AND CHOCOLATE. The chocolate is insanely good. We had a nice snuggle-date one night while I watched tv alone in bed. It was glorious.

Market District coffee

That chocolate is so good, in fact, that I’m tempted to NOT include it in the gift pack I’m giving away! But I’ll share. I guess. If I HAVE to.

Market District coffee
Gift prize pack: 3 bags of coffee, a mug, and chocolate. ENJOY!

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment here telling me your favorite way to enjoy coffee. Straight up? Iced? With a crapton of sugar in it? A winner will be chosen at random from the comments on May 14, 2014.

You can connect with Giant Eagle on Facebook and Twitter to keep updated on new products like these, promotions, and more!

Disclaimer: I was given the products for this post, but my opinions are my own, and I would never recommend a product I wouldn’t purchase with my own money.

I am a sttrroonnnng coffee drinker, although I do like a hint of sugar and 1/2 ‘n 1/2. Also, pro tip, any time you’re at a nice restaurant and they ask if you want coffee after dinner, if you get a cappuccino or espresso, they’ll usually come with a little cookie. Normal coffee doesn’t so I don’t know why anyone would ever get it.

I generally take my coffee black, but every once in a while, it has to be a mocha.

we recently switched to almond milk and i’m still getting used to it.
but i have one tankard of hot coffee either at home or OMW to work then a tankard (really, they are LARGE) of iced from Starbucks when i get to work. I skipped the iced today for green tea and my arse is draaaaaging

I actually enjoy a scoop or two of flavored coffee in my chocolate protein shakes. I guess that makes them mocha shakes? In any case, coffee in any form is awesome, but when I mix it in with my protein shake, I get the protein I need and a nicely flavored kick-start to my morning. :)

I also have a grinder and buy whole beans!

Winter / any non-hot-summer day: I usually get a lighter roast and drink it black (I’m lazy, and especially so before coffee in the morning). But now I’m trying a medium roast (I just noticed Trader Joe’s doesn’t have my regular flavor in Fair Trade Certified, but they do for several medium and dark roast beans). With the medium roast I need half & half and sometimes a little sugar – like the equivalent of half a packet. So much more of a production!

Hot Summer Season: I keep a pitcher of cold coffee in the refrigerator – when it gets low I make more. I also make ice cubes from the pitcher for to-go cups. I’m fairly certain this 1 lifestyle choice contributed greatly to me passing the New York bar exam last summer.

In my coffee, there is less coffee than anything else usually. Lots of milk or cream and sugar (or rather sweetener, if I’m being honest). I’m a sucker for a frozen coffee that is really more of a milkshake. But the longer I’m a mom, the frequency of my coffee intake has been taking a sharp uptick. Think there’s a correlation there?

I’m weird, I like my hot coffee with just 1 cream and iced coffee (crushed ice is the BEST!) with 1 cream and 1 sugar. Flavored coffees are ok (hazelnut is my fav) but I usually default to boring ‘ole coffee-flavored coffee :)

Coffee! Yes! I’ll take it any way, but typically drink it as strong and black as possible, and hot. I love iced coffee in the warmer months, but I like those to be sweet; with or without cream. I also like to get the occasional latte from a coffee shop, which is definitely heavy on the cream and sugar, Yeah, pretty much any way, but black and strong is my favorite, now. I’m always seeking out new coffee, and while I have expensive tastes, I will admit that I tried the Giant Eagle Kenya coffee a few days ago, and really liked it, so I went back and got a pound of it. I’d love to get into roasting my own beans, but haven’t done it yet.

    Coffee!!! :-)

I like it with a small splash of cream. But it has to be cream, not milk, because it somehow coats your tongue just a bit and makes the coffee taste…more coffee-like?

I drink my coffee black, although I also enjoy a latte with an extra shot or two so it’s not too sweet. A few years ago I cut sugar out of my coffee and now I can’t even enjoy a good foofy drink. It’s slightly sad.

Big cup of hot coffee with 3 Truvias and enough milk to fill ‘er up to the top. Preferably consumed before the small people wake up, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that that is not a reality for me right now.

I drink it black in the morning or with dessert, but I love a good iced coffee or a latte mid-afternoon. (I’ve been turning to coffee to curb my snacking habit while the kiddos are asleep!) And hazelnut is one of our favorites, too!

Coffee & chocolate?!?! You’re speaking my love language!

Decaf with cream & sugar, so it’s sweet & creamy, but I also like the coffee flavor, so I drink the darker roasts.

For me it depends on the coffee. Good-quality coffee I prefer to drink black, but if I end up drinking restaurant coffee I’ll usually add cream to mellow out the flavour.

I used to drink it black, then my stomach rebelled. I like it strong, with cream. Simple.
