this boot was made for walking

So! Thanks to having smart doctor-friends from college, I was able to use our magical connections to get Audrey in quickly on Friday afternoon to see an orthopedic specialist about her janky foot. The verdict? A break. A very small, hard-to-see on an x-ray kind of a break, but apparently that’s common in small kids because their bones are crazy and the x-rays can be tough to read. But the fact that she refused to walk on it for two entire days, plus the appearance of a slight bruise on the side of her foot, plus another close look at the x-rays… she’s got a boot. A “wee walker”, they call it.

Oh, this kid. I love her so much. She's going to be the death of me, though.

It’s sad and adorable and pathetic. heh.

Of course, this is a WALKING BOOT, but she still- almost three days later- refuses to do it. (“I don’t YIKE to walk!” she insists.) She crawls everywhere instead, and we have to lift her into the car and her booster seat at the table, etc. Which would be FINE! Except for me being enormously pregnant and exhausted and she’s been doing all these things by herself for like six months. So not only am I out of practice, I’m out of SHAPE for this. I pulled a muscle on Friday from hauling her butt around, in and out of the car 87 times for the bus stop, daycare drop-off, kindergarten pickup, doctor visits, and Maggie’s gymnastics. IT WAS A VERY TIRING DAY, IS WHAT I’M SAYING.

But, she’s not seriously injured, so we’re obviously happy about that. She could have tumbled down ALL THE STAIRS and really hurt herself, the little stinker. And she’s not in any obvious pain, either. I’m hoping in a few days she might forget about the boot while she’s playing and just… walk on it. She’s stood on it a few times but it’s awkward and big and she’s off-kilter when she does it, so I don’t think she’s a fan. In two weeks, we go back for a second round of x-rays and we’ll see if she needs to wear it for longer or if she’s good to go.

Until then, she’s pretending she’s a kitty cat.

I don't think she believes me when I tell her she can walk on the boot. Heh.

Oh what an adorable little stinker. So glad it isn’t serious and I hope for your sake she starts walking on it again.

Poor baby (AND POOR MAMA!). I was just thinking today how NICE it is not to have to haul Elijah in and out of his crib with my pregnant self. I am not sad about him being in a big boy bed when I think about that!! Hope she recovers soon!

I’m quite sure I’ve never been that cute when I’ve had to wear a boot like that. Perhaps next time I’ll try crawling.
