Last Saturday, we headed to my sister’s in-laws’ house for what I thought was a Beach Vacation Planning Lunch. I showed up with the girls and Dan, laptop in hand, ready to search for and book a beach house for this summer. WOOHOO!
What I found instead was this:
You guys. I was SERIOUSLY surprised. I really had no clue they were planning this. Even when Dan insisted that he should bring Audrey over for the beach planning right before her usual naptime, I thought REALLY? Are you SURE? Why are you thinking this is a good idea? But it never crossed my mind that there was a good reason he was willing to sacrifice her nap (her naptime is PRECIOUSSSSS and loved by ALL. Including her.)
It wasn’t a huge party- just a sprinkle, like the invite says- and I think my sister was a little disappointed that more of my friends weren’t able to make it (bad weather plus sickness plus most of you all live a few hours away! DAMMIT, MOVE HERE, ALREADY.) but it didn’t matter to me. The simple fact that anyone thought to put together a party with balloons and cupcakes and alligator cookies and so many wonderful gifts for our son? That was pretty awesome.
And the gifts. We got so much adorable stuff! A few people who couldn’t make it even SENT gifts for the baby, which was absolutely not necessary but so appreciated. The baby especially will appreciate not being wrapped in a pink butterfly hooded towel because now we have BLUE and GREEN and NON-PRINCESS things. It’s a whole new world in our house! I loved watching Dan’s face as I opened onesies with footballs on them, and guitars, and alligators (sticking with the theme for his room, of course) The girls mostly ran around and tried to convince their grandmas to give them another cupcake, but they also enjoyed the present-opening portion of the afternoon a little bit.
A huge, giant thank you to everyone- my sister, my mom, my sister’s mother-in-law for opening up her house for the day- and all the other friends and family who showered us with gifts for our little guy. It’s amazing how loved he is already and he’s not even born yet. It’s nice to know he won’t be overlooked even with two sisters and a baby cousin around :)
The other great news to wrap up the day is that we found an awesome beach house for July. Part of me wonders if we’re nuts for planning a trip when we’ll have a 3-month-old baby, but we’ll have lots of hands to help and the girls will have a blast and LOOK.
Yes. Very good. Yes. I’ll be there.
