One of Audrey’s first real words (besides ‘Mommy’ and ‘Daddy’, etc) was ‘MINE!’ Which, I guess for a second child is kind of natural. Poor kid doesn’t really have ANYTHING that is just hers, so she spends a large majority of her day making sure you understand that whatever she is holding in her hand is HERS and not YOURS, so DON’T TOUCH, OKAY? She was repeating it so much at first that she started sounding a bit like the seagulls in Finding Nemo and it totally cracked us up.
Speaking of being possessive, last week Audrey fell in the driveway and skinned both knees while chasing a runaway beach ball. While she was crying and I was comforting her, Maggie chased after the ball to try to help. WELL. Audrey was NOT A FAN and started yelling at her ‘MINE MINE MIIIIIIINE!’ because apparently two bleeding knees are less important than keeping her big sister away from her beach ball.
Ten minutes after she fell on the driveway, Audrey walked behind Maggie on the swings and got smacked in the face pretty good- airborne and everything! She ended up with a fat lip, a bruised, red nose, and a bruised eyebrow.
For a minute, when her mouth was bleeding EVERYWHERE, I thought a hospital trip may be in our future and you guys, I just cannot go back there for a while THANKYOUVERYMUCH.
(She was fine, except for looking like she was in a bar fight.)
Audrey LOOOOOOOVES playing with Maggie’s 7,283 lipglosses. Her favorite are the ones with the little wand that you unscrew from the tube part. Except instead of using the wand on her lips, she uses the open tube part and boy, is she proud of herself. heh.
(And obviously, if we try to take it from her, we get ‘MIIIIINE!’ and a dirty look.
I was in the bathroom doing… bathroom things, and Audrey barged in with a white cowboy hat and demanded I wear it.
So I did.
That’s motherhood in a nutshell.
Maggie tells a lot of knock knock jokes (and she’s five so you can imagine how funny they are and how much sense THEY DO NOT MAKE AT ALL.) But Audrey loves it. She sits there and repeats ‘gock gock!’ over and over again and giggles while Maggie plays comedian for us.
Anytime Audrey goes into the bathroom, she insists on getting a tiny piece of toilet paper and blowing her nose. It’s adorable.
She loves playing Audrey Says- basically we imitate whatever she does (clapping her hands, throwing her arms up in the air, spinning in a circle) and you can just see her eyes light up with THE POWER of CONTROLLING US ALL.
Not that there was any doubt she had us all wrapped around her little finger.
