in which I hear Dan’s head exploding from 20 miles away

We’re in the car this morning on the way to daycare. Out of the blue, Maggie says, “I’m gonna marry Bob*!”

(*not his real name!)

“Oh, really? Who is Bob?”

“A boy at school.”

“Do you like him?”

“What do you like about him?”

“He’s nice! And he has BOOGERS, JUST LIKE ME!”

“Oh wow. Okay! So… what else do you like about him?”

“He’s soooo funny. He tells funny jokes.”

“Really? Tell me one of his jokes.”

“Knock knock… (who’s there?)… Banana head!… (Banana head who?)… Knock knock… (who’s there?)… Banana head!… (Banana head who?)… Knock Knock… (who’s there?)… ORANGE!… (Orange who?)… Orange you glad I didn’t say Banana head hahahahahaha!!!”

“Wow that’s a really funny joke, he IS funny. What else do you like about him?”

“He lets me watch him play his DS the LONGEST. OF ANYBODY.”

So. If that’s not True Preschool Love, I don’t know what is.

this is her trying NOT to smile when I asked her to.

This cracks me up: “He lets me watch him play his DS the LONGEST. OF ANYBODY.” It’s amazing how entertaining and enticing it is to watch someone else play their game, solo. I guess it is like watching a movie in some ways, except you get to root for your friend to win!

But, let’s not talk “marry” so much, eh? How about, “I’ll share my fruit snacks with..” or something, huh? You’re going to raise Dad’s blood pressure too much, Maggie. Trust me, I know; I have a girl just a hair older than you. ;-)

Good to know the classic “orange you glad I didn’t say banana” joke is still going strong.

Emily gives Ed a heart attack at least 3 times a week with this stuff. The teen years are going to be fun.

Ah. Yes. I thought I heard about an explosion in the PA this morning. Poor Dan. Poor you.

I hear it doesn’t get better. Good thing you’ve got that nice front porch, just right for a rocking chair, and well… I’m sure Dan knows what he needs to buy to keep the boys away. ;)

Awww. Peanut is sweet on our babysitter’s sons. Yes, both of them. One is exactly two years older than her and the other is in middle school. The sitter published a picture of the younger son and Peanut kissing on Facebook the other day and I think the husband swallowed his tongue.
