I think there was a period of about 6 months where all Maggie wanted to read at bedtime was Dr. Suess: The Cat and The Hat, There’s a Wocket in my Pocket, Fox in Socks (OMG THE GIGGLES!), The Lorax, Yertle The Turtle… she loved them all. And still does, actually, though she’s since expanded her horizons a little bit (and my mouth is thankful because MAN, Dr. Suess is hard to read when you’re tired at bedtime!)
When I first saw a commercial for The Lorax movie, which opens nationwide on Friday, March 2nd, I was thrilled. I knew Maggie would be excited about seeing the movie and it would be perfect for another theater trip. She’s only seen a few movies in the theater so far but each time, I’m pretty sure her HEAD is going to fly off from the happiness. And the story itself is one we really like- though the movie adaptation puts in some new elements which sound fun!
From the creators of Despicable Me and the imagination of Dr. Seuss comes the 3D-CG feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, an adaptation of the classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.
Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler. Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Audrey, the girl of Ted’s dreams. Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is the third feature created by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Hop).
(ALSO: TAYLOR SWIFT, YOU GUYS. When I told Maggie that, there was actual SQUEALING. I think Maggie is secretly twelve years old, not four. Lordy.)
Anyway. So we’re looking forward to seeing this one. We get to attend an early preview of the film and how fun is that!? It’s going to be a fun day out for the two of us. Maybe we’ll pretend we’re Important Hollywood People and wear fancy clothes and go to lunch afterwards. Maggie loves a Girls’ Day Out!
