One of the things we did this year for Christmas was try to convey to Maggie that it’s not ALL ABOUT SANTA. I mean, that part is totally cool and we play it up like crazy. It’s fun! But it’s more than just gifts for HER. It’s coming up with fun and thoughtful gifts for the people we love. We wanted to start teaching her that it’s not just a fat guy in a red suit, or just about putting up a manger scene in the dining room and playing with the ceramic Baby Jesus even when you think your mom can’t hear you BECAUSE SHE TOTALLY CAN AND IF YOU BREAK JESUS, YOU’RE IN BIG TROUBLE.
So one night, Maggie and I went out. First we stopped at ChickfilA to see the (creepy!) Santa Cow and decorate a cookie. Big fun. Then we headed to the stores to pick something out for Daddy and Audrey. For Daddy, she wanted to get a pair of work pants. I talked her into a shirt instead, because I wasn’t sure his size and he’s really picky about pants. So we settled on a nice gray button-down work shirt. For Audrey, she chose the book I Love You, Stinkyface.
Then another day, Dan took her out and they went shopping for me. She picked out a nice matching necklace and earrings (that I’ll actually wear! Girl’s got style!) But the best present was this.
It’s a witch figurine. Like 2 inches tall. On clearance at Kohl’s.
Now, the reason it’s my favorite? SHE REMEMBERED. The night we were out shopping for Dan and Audrey, I checked out the leftover Halloween stuff and she saw the witch and I said it was cute. But I didn’t buy it.
So she bought it for me.
She also picked out a card. Dan said it was the first one she found.
It’s…. fitting, somehow. ha!
But my favorite part is her personal message inside. Obviously. :)
