product review & giveaway: Curel Pregnancy & Motherhood Lotion

Pregnancy comes with a plethora of bodily changes. A huge belly, swollen ankles, sore hips, stretch marks. And dry skin. Dry, itchy, tight belly skin. I’ve never been one to have issues with dry skin normally, but during pregnancy when my belly starts to grow and my pants get tighter and my skin gets drier, it’s… uncomfortable. The only solution is to slather my stomach with lotion. Lots and lots of lotion.

So when I got the opportunity to try out Curel’s new Pregnancy & Motherhood lotion, I was intrigued! I’m almost 6 months pregnant and woo-boy is my belly expanding quickly. Also: ITCHY.

Curel Life's Stages Pregnancy & Motherhood Lotion

A short description from the Curel website:

Curél® Life’s Stages® nurturing comfort® Moisture Cream was developed with OB/GYNs to address dry skin issues during pregnancy. This fast-absorbing cream helps your skin withstand the changes of pregnancy by increasing elasticity over 100%, helping to smooth the appearance of stretch marks. It also relieves dry, tight skin, making it soft and comfortable, including postpartum skin. It’s even safe to use on your baby.

Sounds like exactly what a tired, pregnant belly needs! It also claims to be paraben and petrolatum free, mineral-oil free, non-greasy, and hypoallergenic- all things that may be of concern for any mommy-to-be.

So! I got down to business and opened the tube. It has a very light, pleasant scent, which is a huge bonus when you’re pregnant- sensitive noses & stinky bath products can be a dangerous combination! But no issues there at all. The lotion itself is thick and creamy. Not so thick that it’s difficult to rub into your skin, but not water-feeling either.

The real surprise I had with this lotion is that I applied it in the morning after my shower, and when I got changed for bed that evening, my belly still felt… lotioned, if that makes sense. And not in a greasy, sticky way, either. My skin felt soft and smooth and not at all itchy. Usually when I use any kind of moisturizer- even the ones that claim to last for 24 hours- I feel like I need to reapply after a few hours. But not so with this one.

I call that a win.

SPEAKING OF WIN! I received an extra tube of lotion to share with my readers. You just have to leave a comment here, telling me your favorite thing about being pregnant (or, if you’ve never been pregnant yourself, a funny pregnancy story from someone you know!). You can also Tweet about the giveaway- just leave a second comment with a link to your post on Twitter. The contest will be open until June 15, 2010 and I’ll choose a random winner that day.

You can also find out more about Curel’s Life’s Stages products on their website, including the Pregnancy & Motherhood lotion.

Disclosure: I was given the Curel Pregnancy & Motherhood lotion for the purposes of this review and giveaway. The opinions expressed are my own, and no additional compensation was received.

HOLLA! And yes I totally know what you mean when you say your belly still felt lotioned :-)

My favorite thing about being pregnant, and there were a lot to choose from, was that I was never alone. I always had the baby with me and that was such a comfort. Quiet time with my boy. It was something that no one else could experience but me. And it was magical.

Plus the elastic pants. That comes in a close second!

  3. I can’t say I’ve got any pregnancy stories for you. But, I’m gonna be an aunt again in August, so that has to count for something, right?! Also, I wonder if that lotion would work on generally dry skin?!?

  6. Tough to choose!! I think I’d have to go with experiencing it through my other kids’ eyes…especially this time around with my son. His perspective is FAR different than Anna’s was! And feeling the baby move is always so amazing. What a miracle!!!!!

My favorite thing about my pregnancy at the moment is my bf can now feel the baby move! I’ve felt him/her moving in there for awhile now so it wonderful to be able to share it with him.

No pregnancy stories for myself, but I’ll share my mom’s.

My sister was six weeks late, and my brother was four weeks late, so when my mom was pregnant with me, the doctor was going to induce her so I wouldn’t be really late. I was due in August so they were going to have her come in a week before the due date. Well, when she came in, she actually turned out to be in labor and I was born that day, without help from the doctors. It’s not really a funny story, but I’ve always liked it because I don’t like anyone telling me what to do, I like to do things on my own terms. :)

The one thing that I loved about pregnancy was how free I was with my body. I felt that I didn’t have to be ashamed of the curve of my stomach because there was a baby inside. It was a glorious feeling to own that shape unashamed.

My favorite part of pregnancy is losing weight – is always easier for me to lose weight when I’m pregnant…

My favorite part of being pregnant with Deianira was Jackson and Zane talking to her and about her. They loved her before they knew her or could even comprehend it… :)

I’m kind of with Melissa on this one, in that my favorite thing about being pregnant is actually having the baby. Although I do love feeling the baby move — a few more weeks away this go-round.

I love how I looked when pregnant- swollen ankles and all! I feel so much less self-conscious when I’m preggo- even in a bathing suit! Everyone, including myself, is so focused on the belly (which is supposed to be huge!) all the other flaws just fade into the background. :)

I used this lotion after Keaton was born and loved it!

I’m not sure if I can pick a favorite part about being pregnant, I just all around love it! Of course way up there on the list would be feeling the baby move and hearing the heartbeat. But what I think I love even more is day dreaming about this baby’s personality and thinking about he/she and Keaton growing up together.
