oh, the weekend

We did yard work yesterday. Or rather, Dan did yard work while I sat in a chair going crazy because I couldn’t help. I pulled like four weeds before my back was yelling at me.

Among the various plants and flowers that the previous owners had planted that we didn’t like, there were some pretty red tulips hiding. And of course, as he pulled out one of the offenders, the tulips came out with them. I think I was able to salvage a bulb or two, but the blooms I brought in and put in some water.

They brightened our rainy Sunday today. A day spent in our pajamas (until I showered at 1:50pm and got back into clean pajamas), watching hockey, doing some long overdue maintenance and clean-up on my computer, doing basically nothing. Even Maggie, who skipped her nap (AGAIN) and insisted she wasn’t tired and then crashed with her head on my shoulder around 4:30pm while we were watching some of her baby videos on the computer (her new favorite activity) She even drooled on my shirt. And then almost rolled off the couch in her sleep.

Dan went to buy a riding lawn mower, so now instead of 2+ hours to cut the grass, it will take him just an hour.

I did laundry, but that’s not all that exciting.

How was your weekend?

  • Those photos are gorgeous! How did you position the flowers against the lighting to get those results?

    • Thanks!! and oh I took about 8,281 shots to get 2 good ones :) I had them sitting on our kitchen table, right near our sliding glass doors. It was cloudy today but there was still some good light coming in, and I just kept moving around them, snapping away. Then of course some fancy actions in Photoshop Elements help too :)

  • I think I’m getting a riding lawn mower for Mother’s Day. Isn’t that romantic? Those tulip shots are beautiful!

    • haha yes, how things change when you’re a homeowner :) We were just saying today how we need a good cordless drill, and I said HEY! Father’s Day is coming up! Dan didn’t find that as funny as I did. heh

    • I fear that the end of naps is near. She hasn’t napped at home for a week except for yesterday on the couch. Apparently she still naps at school, but only for an hour or so. I MIGHT CRY.

  • I love yard work. And i love the way my husband smells after he mows the lawn. And i love how he stands on the porch and admires his work when he’s done.

  • I used to love the post-grass cutting afterglow… the smell of the mown grass, the cold beer in my hand, and contemplation of installing a new cutting pattern…

    • aw I like yard work. Probably because the stuff that falls to me is the fun stuff- flowers and digging. Dan gets to do the tedious stuff like grass-cutting and weed-eating. heh But I like getting out there in the sunshine and using it as my ‘exercise’ :)

I had to add to the chorus about how great those pictures are. Beautiful.

Sending sympathy your way re. the aching back – I found pregnancy #2 very difficult because of my back. Would be fine while doing things (at least until near the end) then I wouldn’t be able to walk later. Of course everything is worse the second time around ‘cuz you’ve got that little toddler hanging around making you do stuff and not letting you sleep whenever you want. It’s amazing anyone has more than 2 kids.

And the toddler napping. Glory days. We’re in that zone now where I actually don’t want my son to nap anymore (despite the crankiness and lack of quiet time) because he isn’t tired at bedtime anymore. I’d take no nap over having a kid up until 9 PM. THAT is painful.
