OH THE HUMANITY
Just in case Dan decides I’m being dramatic when he gets home from his trip this week and I tell him that Maggie was an absolute MONSTER, I have proof.
Keep in mind, this was AFTER a 30 minute scream-fest at the top of the stairs, during which she refused to walk down the steps on her own, claiming her ‘foot hurt’ even though she had been running around the house for hours, climbing up and down the steps with no problems. It was a battle of wills and I needed to win it. I refused to give in and that led to a massive tantrum (from her) and a timeout (for her). After lunch, she decided she needed another bandaid for her (microscopic) cut on her thumb, and then apparently it was crooked or I covered up Ariel’s shoes or something ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE LIKE THAT, and that gives you the above photos.
A few hours later, she fell asleep in her closet.
So you know, maybe she was tired. Or just possessed by Satan.

My younger kids get like that when their dad is away. They are upset and missing him a lot, but just don’t really know thats why they are upset/or how to express it. So, every little thing turns into a huge tantrum and dramatic oh woah as me fit. I bet she’ll be right as rain when her dad walks through the door and even though you’ll have proof of her tantrums, she’ll be a perfect angel for him.

OH YOU CALLED IT. lol She went to bed without a peep last night and slept all the way through. I told him he has to take her with him next week when he leaves again ;) HA
Ah yes, my 2 1/2 year old very closely resembles those pictures on a daily basis, usually while screaming “I can’t DO IT!”. Don’t you just love that those are always the days when nap time is a struggle? Hope tomorrow’s easier! That second picture is just priceless, btw.
WOW. Just wow. That 1st picture is full of agony… and drama…
I hate to be the bearer of awful news, but I know that I was (and pretty sure Lili, my sister, was as well) a holy terror sent from h-e-double-hockey-sticks when dad went out of town…. Which was relatively often when we were young…
However, this was way before the fancy princess dresses and such. (Not sure I would have worn the fancy dresses anyway back then, but now I’m jealous of all these little peeps with their fancy stuff…)
Is it bad that I’m bookmarking this post to send to Lili n a year or two when her hubby is busy at work & My Little C is pitching a fit at Lili? It’s not bad, right? I’m hoping Lili will laugh… Probably not… Meh, I’ll still try…
Also, I’m going to DM you abt something this eve. You’ll get it tom. :-)
Ok- I’m sorry, but I really laughed at this post. I can laugh now, but I’ve been where you are. First child born while husband was in grad school and NEVER missed or took a break. NEVER. Not even when I was horribly sick. Had a preschooler and baby while husband traveled internationally. You will survive- as you know but these are some hard days. Long days. Short years. The tutu over the head and the pullup was precious but I sure don’t miss the potty training and diapers. Girl, you will survive and laugh too. I hope.

Oh I laugh. It’s all you can do, really! And 90% of the time, things are great. It’s that 10% that stands out in your head and drives you absolutely batty (and being so worn down lately for me hasn’t helped. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t pregnant, my outlook would be much different! heh)
I’m feelin’ ya this week Jen! It must have been in the air because today was full of drama at my house. Sass and drama from the 4yo daughter and fits galore from the 2yo son. I just had to laugh a few times at him because, juts like Maggie, it was oh-so-dramatic when I told him No, you can’t watch Curious George for the 4th straight hour. I’m not THAT bad of a mother! ;) Oh the wailing and gnashing of teeth! Soon, right? The Dads are back SOON!

We’ve had many many days like that lately. I feel your pain. After much trashing and fighting over taking a nap today I found Lily asleep with a book open on her chest, just like a grown up!

This looks very familiar, if you substitute a girl with blonde curls for a boy with brown curls. :P I wonder every day how my hair is not completely gray from the past few months. The scariest part is thinking about going through this stage AGAIN in three years with kid #2!

I KNOW. I just… can’t believe we get to do this all again. Both in a good and a bad way. LOL

I still don’t understand how a girl can be so mad/sad in a TUTU. It’s a TUTU for crying out loud!

I’m so glad you got your camera!!
The drama tantrums don’t get worse, they get more creative. My almost-4-yo came downstairs SCAH-REAM-ING that she could! not! go! to! sleep! EVER!
Why?
Because she had not yet met Barack Obama and Jesus.
(We’re agnostic.)

LOL! That’s some awesome drama, there. The stuff they get hung up on is just amazing. CROOKED BANDAIDS, OMG.
I LOVE it!!! (sorry) But as a mom who has been through about 1,576 (and still counting) of those tantrums, it just makes me laugh now.
She is so damn cute though! And I’m sorry, but you are going to have a tough sell convincing the mast majority of us that that sweetie with the blond curls and tutu is a so-called “monster”? LOL!

and THAT is why I take pictures and videos to document The Monster. Because she has the ability to fool everyone ;)
I feel really guilty for cracking up laughing at these pics, when she’s obviously in anguish (even if for a silly reason) LOL. So funny though… wow, I have a lot to look forward to when E. gets a little older I guess.

well yeah, I felt mildly guilty sitting there snapping pictures while she freaked out. But nothing I was doing was helping anyway, so I just had to ride the wave and make the most of it ;) HA

I have to agree with what someone else said, how can you be so sad when you are wearing such a pretty tutu! Tutus make you a pretty, happy princess! Anyway, I know you probably didn’t think so at the time but that is hilarious and adorable. <3

Alexis’ absolute favorite video to watch is the one of her throwing a fit. She’s always, “I was really bad that day.”
Those photos? PRICELESS.

That first photo is awesome in so many ways! I love it most from a photographer’s standpoint – excellent clarity and sharpness on portions of her face, the colors in her face pop, and great depth of field, making her the ONLY thing you see. It’s wonderful! (Ugh, it’s painful waiting until we have enough saved to get that DSLR!)
And for the rest of the photos: I love ‘em all! I’m sorry you had such a rough time with her at times, but you put it to good use, taking pictures and getting great blog fodder!
And I love that she fell asleep in the closet. Priceless!

I had a babysitter last night, and we have a babysitter again tonight, and I fully expect that tomorrow (Saturday), my younger daughter is going to flip the hell out on me. Kids Maggie’s (and Kate’s) age are so tough because they know something is wrong (where is Daddy? why hasn’t mommy been home for two nights in a row?) and they have anxiety (sorry; playing armchair psychologist here), and the only way they can express it is by FREAKING OUT on whatever parent is closer.
That picture of her asleep in her closet is precious. Kate has fallen asleep in similarly bizarre places (for example, behind the glider in her room) lately.
Good luck.

I totally agree- it’s like she knew something was wrong and she was upset about it, but she couldn’t really explain it. She never once cried for Daddy. But she sure was pissed!!
OMG I am *SO* glad my mom doesn’t have pictures of me ’cause I”m sure that most of them looked exactly like that!!! Thankfully, every time she’d touch my dad’s camera she’d break it!

HA! That may come in handy for sure ;)
AWESOME. :) heheh
OK, two other commenters said what I was going to say, but still, I don’t see how someone can be that upset while wearing a fairy dress. It just doesn’t go together.. like sad banjo music.
Laughed so hard I cried. Ah toddlers. These pictures are truly awesome. The sleeping in the closet is the perfect ending too!
Wow; that first picture is absolutely the best. Maggie is a gorgeous little girl – even though she had a tantrum (or two lol). Bet she was a perfect angel for Daddy when he came home, no?
