last time I’ll ramble on about my trip to Chicago, I swear

So! Did you know I went on a trip this weekend? To Chicago? Not sure if I mentioned it yet or not.

ha.

I had an awesome time. On Friday after landing at the airport, I took a cab to downtown Chicago BY MYSELF, OMG, and I didn’t die or get mugged or get lost or anything. I spent the afternoon chilling at a downtown coffee shop until Sam could meet me. The lovely Pseudostoops was a huge help- I met her at work and she directed me to a few nice places where I could hang with my book while I waited.

Then Sam arrived and suddenly it was a whirlwind of activity: hugs and squeals, a brief tour around the area for some pictures, then off to dinner before the Main Event- the Wii Fit Party sponsored by Brand About Town. The party was fantastic. I got to meet a few wonderful ladies (but sadly didn’t get a chance to talk to everyone in detail, GAH *KICKINGMYSELF*) and we were in our elastic-waist pants and there was delicious food and wine and a cute boy hula-hooped for us and then we all acted like goofballs flapping our arms like chickens on our balance boards.

Then we all left with our very own Wii Fit Plus, along with a super cool Wii Fit jacket. I KNOW. Fabulous!

The next day, Sam fed me pumpkin pancakes and then deep dish pizza. (Not at the same meal, obviously. That would be kind of gross.) (Also, I now weigh approximately 3,472 pounds more than I did last Thursday.) Then we took a train into town and toured the city a bit. Sears Tower (yes, SEARS Tower, not Willis Tower, ahem.) where we rode the elevator up 103 floors and stood in a glass box high above the ground and nearly peed ourselves. Millenium Park- the ‘bean’, SantaCon 2009 (who knew?), and some hot chocolate and treats before we headed back to the train.

I can’t say enough about the wonderful hospitality in the Campen house, seriously. Her husband Bryan was totally cool with the fact that a complete stranger was sleeping in their spare bedroom, using their shower, eating their food, drinking out of their crazy cat mug. And I don’t know if she feels the same way (OMG IT’S LIKE A FIRST DATE!) but it really felt like Sam and I had known each other forever. We laughed and shared stories and just picked up right where we left off on Twitter, like, the day before.

And her son? Is adorable. He sat in my lap and let me read him a book. We’re totally BFFs now.

On Sunday, sadly, my adventure was over. I boarded my plane back to Pittsburgh (surrounded by fellow depressed Steeler fans, waaaah!) and pulled into our garage at 7:30pm. Exhausted, a little hungry, but satisfied from a great weekend.

And of course, as much fun as it all was, I was glad to be home. This little girl was waiting for me, after all.

SUCH CHEESE.

I waved when you flew over Indiana (did you see?). ha. Sounds like you had a great trip! My one visit to Chicago was for work & the cab ride I took was terrifying enough that I walked back the 8 or so blocks. Broke the heel of my shoe & everything. AND the person I was with wanted to go to the Cheesecake Factory (which I can get in Indiana) instead of yummy deep dish (which I cannot get in Indiana). I think you had a better time!!

  2. Sounds like you made the most of your brief time here in Chicago. You tried new things, met new people and walked away with some new friends. Not half bad for 48 hours in the windy city!
