my bag of firsts

I am shamelessly stealing this idea from Jen (Playgroups are No Place for Children). (It’s Day 23 of NaBloPoMo and I’m quickly running out of Drafts in my WordPress. eek!)

First memory
Going to the store with my uncle to pick out a gift for my new baby sister. I was almost 3. I can still picture the aisle in KMart.

First celebrity obsession crush
Christian Slater. Robin Hood Prince of Thieves did it for me.

First dog
Never had a dog. We had a hamster and some fish, and then my parents got a cat when I was in college.

First memory of being jealous
My friend Kris at school at the most awesome sparkly pens and pencils in her desk. And pretty hair. I think everyone was jealous of her at some point!

First time eating a cherry tomato
oh geez I have no idea. I was probably older though, like a teenager. I was kind of picky about food.

First kiss
Billy at the Spirit Dance in 7th grade. oh the stories Pris could tell you all… ;)

First sleepover
Emily Wilkinson’s house, I think. We were in 3rd or 4th grade, maybe? We played Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board and hypnotized a girl. Or at least we tried, heh. I remember being scared in their living room late at night because they had a lot of windows.

First time attending Sunday School
I think I was 5. I attended that church all through high school, was very active in the youth group, and we went back a few times after Maggie was born.

First roller coaster ride
The Little Dipper at Kennywood!

First favorite brand name
Levis? I don’t even know…

First pair of Guess Jeans
5th grade, they were hand-me-downs from someone.

First huge misunderstanding
In 5th grade, I tricked a friend into believing I was moving away. I have no idea why I did it, but she fell for it and was so upset, then got mad at me and we kind of stopped being friends after that.

First time being mistaken for a boy
Not sure it ever happened, other than when I was a baby, probably. I always had long hair.

First huge disappointment
When the 5th grade girls at school picked me to be the Girl We Pick On This Week. Fifth grade girls are MEEEAAAN.

First big family vacation
We went to Florida for my uncle’s wedding, and then to Disney/Universal for a few days.

First heartbreak
8th grade, see First Kiss above, heh.

First stay in the hospital
Age 10, I had surgery on my kidney.

First car
silver 2001 Honda Civic, right after I graduated from college. Unless you count driving my parents’ tan Ford Tempo in 1995 when I learned to drive.

First job
ice cream bee-otch at a local ice cream shop.

First paycheck
Probably like $40 or something pathetic, but I thought I WAS RICH!

First promotion
after a year or so of working at Pitt, but I had to beg for it and I’m pretty sure I sweat through my shirt. OMG SO NERVOUS. Even though I completely deserved it. I even took notecards in with me. I am such a dork.

First apartment
with Dan after we got married. We lived there for 2 years before buying our first house.

First blog not on Myspace, started in 2000. You can read the archives here if you are REALLY REALLY BORED. ha.

First baby

First daughter

First husband
Dan, of course! :)

So- what’s in YOUR bag of firsts??!

I’m so glad you played along!

Sounds like 5th grade was quite a life changing year for you! (It definitely was for me, and yes, girls are SO MEAN at that age.)

I fell for Christian Slater when he was a skater dude in Gleaming the Cube.

Yes 5th grade was a little bit brutal!

I also like Christian Slater in Untamed Heart. A few of my friends and I went to see that for my 13th birthday. LOVED.

hahahaha…..I was going to comment on Kris’s hair and how beautiful it is. Then, you brought up Billy. Oh my, the stories of heartache we had in junior high, you with Billy and me with Matt Fugh (RIP)!! Funny how what we thought was the end of the world is now so funny. I would love to go back to middle school though, life was so simple!

I watched Robin Hood about 100 times JUST BECAUSE of Christian Slater. Oh my I thought he was so hot. Hee.
