My first reaction was OMG SLEEP. But of course, not only is that boring, that’s an incredibly inefficient use of time. I mean- right there, she said “If you woke up”. Why would I go *back* to sleep? Even though it sounds awesome and like every mother’s dream.
I needed to think about this for a bit. And also needed to devote way more than 140 characters to my response.
The problem with a question like this- for me, at least- is that even if the kid is taken care of and I don’t have anything pressing for work and the house is clean… I can still find Things That Need Done. Laundry, hanging that mirror that’s been sitting in the dining room for a week, painting the living room, cleaning out those old files in the office… there is a constant revolving list of Things I Could Do. And I am genetically mutated in such a way that is VERY hard for me to do nothing. I am a Super Multi-Tasker and start to shake if I’m only doing one thing at a time. And while it is true that I’m great at getting things done, I sometimes consider it a weakness. I have this compulsion to Do instead of Be.
I’m trying to work on that.
But anyway. Let’s say I have a whole day- 24 hours!- to do whatever I want to do. Forgive me if I get a little bit dizzy at the idea, because HOLY CRAP. That would be awesome. Here’s a list of things I would do, in no particular order:
Go for a walk.
Have lunch at Spice Island Tea House, either alone or with a friend, doesn’t really matter to me.
Read a book.
Watch as many Gilmore Girls episodes as possible, UNINTERRUPTED AND WITHOUT FOLDING LAUNDRY AT THE SAME TIME.
Lose 5 pounds. (hey, it’s a fantasy, so I say it can happen in just a day.)
Get a massage.
Blog surf through my Google Reader without feeling rushed, actually being able to comment on each post, rather than just skim & Mark As Read.
Go to a park or somewhere cool and take pictures.
And… I’m pretty sure those activities either will take longer than 24 hours or will cause me to not be able to sleep at all that night. But, whatever. It’s a dream day, and maybe I’ll ask Santa for it!
So. What would you do?
