I love nature. as long as it’s not a SPIDER.

I had been hoping that Fred wouldn’t ‘hatch’ from his chrysalis until tomorrow so we’d be home to watch it, but he was already out and beautiful by the time we got home tonight. Maggie was fascinated by his pretty colors and kept flapping her arms and saying ‘BUTTERFLY! BA-COOON! CATERPILLAR!’

I was going to try and wait until morning to let him go so Maggie could watch, but he was flitting around inside the jar like he wanted out. I opened the lid and he climbed onto my finger for moment, then he took off flying through the kitchen!

Fred

Dan finally caught up with him and took him outside, where he sat for a few moments and I was able to get a better shot of his wings.

Fred

So gorgeous.

Then he took off into the night. Have fun in Mexico!

Hard to believe he looked like this less than 2 weeks ago.

our new pet.

Nature is cool.

How fun! I have a little boy in my Sunday School class that tells me all about his caterpillar/butterfly adventures weekly. It’s just as amazing to see kids get caught up in nature as it is to watch nature happen.

Very pretty but I don’t think I’d want to touch it.

I was a bit freaked out at first, but he climbed right on my finger and just sat there. It was actually really cool! I felt very One With Nature, ha

How cool! I hope that your little one could appreciate the pictures, anyway, even if she didn’t get to see first hand.
