they don’t stay babies for long

they don’t stay babies for long

There is a little boy who lives up the street from us. Let’s call him Bobby.* (*His name is not Bobby.) He’s about 3 years old and Maggie has played in his driveway a few times. They play with sidewalk chalk. He shares his tricycle with her. He impresses her with his awesome scooter-riding skills…. KEEP READING »

blog envy

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging lately. And not in a ‘I’m thinking about writing a blog post later.’ kind of way. More in a ‘Why on earth do I do this, and what’s it all about?’ kind of a way. I started blogging in 2000. I was a junior in college, just 21… KEEP READING »

playdate!

playdate!

It feels like MONTHS since we’ve spent a Saturday at home. It’s been a glorious day. We all slept until 8, had a lazy morning of breakfast and coloring. And then we had our friends BurghBaby and Alexis over for lunch and some bowling. The bowling was unplanned, but still fun. I think Maggie had… KEEP READING »

friday five!

friday five!

It’s Friday! 1. What are the titles of the last three books you read all of? Outlander, The Man Who Loved Jane Austen (shut up, it was like 50 cents at the library book sale!), and The Heretic’s Daughter (which was fantastic, btw) 2. What are the titles of between three and five magazines you… KEEP READING »

blondes have more fun. or at least she thinks so.

After 2 and a half years, I finally did it. I got my little baby girl’s hair cut. She did great. She didn’t cry or wiggle or cause a fuss. She wasn’t a huge fan of the hairdryer, but she did give a few smiles. It wasn’t a drastic change- just trimming up the curls… KEEP READING »

Dude. You all need to stop being so clever on Twitter. Or I need to do this more than once every three weeks. ha CranberryPerson You said “Thanks for the quick response!” but I know you meant “you poor sad bastard, alone at your computer, desperate for human contact.” 3:38 PM Sep 3rd redpenmama (blog)… KEEP READING »

blowing our minds everyday

blowing our minds everyday

Maggie wrote her name today. Granted, it’s backwards (she’s been reading letters right-to-left instead of left-to-right, and it’s so adorable I almost don’t want to correct her.) and the ‘E’ is a little wacky. But I only helped her with the 2 G’s. She knew the order of the letters on her own and wrote… KEEP READING »

party hangover

party hangover

Dan and I both have big families. Both sides include aunts, uncles, tons of cousins, and some of those cousins have kids… the list goes on. If everyone got together at the same time, the numbers would easily climb to 100. (Now, some of them live out of state- some even across the country- so… KEEP READING »

Party hangover. Will talk more tomorrow!

I love nature. as long as it’s not a SPIDER.

I love nature. as long as it’s not a SPIDER.

I had been hoping that Fred wouldn’t ‘hatch’ from his chrysalis until tomorrow so we’d be home to watch it, but he was already out and beautiful by the time we got home tonight. Maggie was fascinated by his pretty colors and kept flapping her arms and saying ‘BUTTERFLY! BA-COOON! CATERPILLAR!’ I was going to… KEEP READING »

five things.

five things.

Thing The First: We have officially unpacked the last box from our move. Today marks 1 month since the closing. So not bad! It involved 2 days downstairs in the basement and the garage, and me frantically texting Dan to COME HOME QUICKLY! because there was a spider the SIZE OF MY FACE lurking in… KEEP READING »

Maggie started gymnastics today. It’s mainly just 45 minutes of a bunch of 2- and 3-year-olds running around, walking on balance beams, rolling down ramps, and jumping in ball pits… but she had fun. She used to go to MyGym until the one near us closed (boo!) so I knew she’d love it. My favorite… KEEP READING »

I’m going to remind her of this when she’s 13.

I’m going to remind her of this when she’s 13.

Maggie & I were playing outside tonight while Dan was mowing the lawn. We were coloring the driveway with chalk, and suddenly she stopped, looked up at me and said: “Momm-ee? You my bess fwend.” And then my heart exploded.

HELLO THERE! Don’t mind us, we’re just recovering from an incredibly fun weekend. So yeah I’m like 2 days late with my Weekly Winners. whoops. (Also, just an update on Maggie’s leg thing from Friday (called ‘toxic synovitis‘ in case you were wondering): she’s doing just fine. She woke up Saturday morning with a fever… KEEP READING »

I can only imagine if she was A BOY.

I can only imagine if she was A BOY.

My kid is falling apart. Earlier this week, she smashed her cheek on the slide at the playground and is now sporting a nice bruise on her face. Yesterday morning, she fell face-first onto the hardwood floor and split open her top lip. Last night, she tripped on the sidewalk while pushing her toy shopping… KEEP READING »

my husband is cooler than yours

my husband is cooler than yours

Today was kind of a cranky day in our house. Everything was nice for about an hour during breakfast, then Maggie fell off of her princess chair and split her lip (GOOD MORNING, BLOOD!) and it was pretty much downhill from there. Four straight hours of whining and not listening and HITTING AND PINCHING (not… KEEP READING »

if you’re ever wondering, moments like these are why.

Every once in a while, I’ll have to wake Maggie up in the morning. She usually sleeps until 7 or 7:30, but some days she’s still snoozing past 8am (oh hai, I’m SPOILED!) Since I am lucky enough to set my own work schedule (most of the time), I can usually just let her wake… KEEP READING »

what I’ve been up to lately, because I know you’ve been losing sleep at night.

Work. Is. Kicking. My. Butt. In a very very good way, of course. I’ve had some really great projects this summer, as well as a few that were put ‘on hold’ months ago that came out of the woodwork in the last couple of weeks (WHAT TIMING, with the move and everything. GAH!) Most exciting… KEEP READING »
