7 years
Dear Dan,
I don’t think I’ve ever written you an official Blog Letter before. Maggie has had a few, but sadly, you’ve been left out, and I’m sorry for that. It’s not that I don’t think you’re worthy, it’s more just because I figure you know how I feel about you after all these years. And sometimes I’m pretty sure you think this whole blogging thing is insanity.
But, since we’re celebrating 7 years of marriage this week, I thought it was time to give you your letter. (I’ll be nice, I promise.)
So, seven years of marriage. This is of course after the first 6 years we spent together, through high school and college. Remember that day back in 1996 when we worked at Wendy’s together and Sarah told you I “wanted you really bad” and then gave you my phone number? (I SWEAR I didn’t tell her to say it quite like that.) Seems like just yesterday. Plus 13 years.
We made it through college and got married on June 8, 2002. I can say without a doubt that our wedding is on my list of the Best Days Ever. Also on that list? Maggie’s birthday and the two Steeler Super Bowl wins I’ve witnessed. And the fact that I know you will agree with me that those four days are The Best Ever is just another reason why I know I married the right person.
I am being honest when I say I have a hard time relating to a lot of other wives when they complain about their husbands. I mean, sure, there’s the little stuff- you’re forgetful, you leave your socks on the floor, you ALWAYS LEAVE THE BATHROOM LIGHT ON, OMG- but that’s all stuff that really is not that important in the big picture.
When it comes to doing things- important things- like being a dad, you are the greatest. You are not afraid to take charge of Maggie and you give her all of her baths without complaint and you give me breaks from the un-ending task of mothering when I need them. You truly love being her Daddy and watching you with her is just about the most fun thing I have ever done. Except for when you’re both cranky in the car and I have to intervene, but I guess that’s okay since you’ve done some intervening of your own at 3am now and then.
You are majorly, awesomely supportive of me in everything. When I wanted to quit my job and focus on my web business full time, you were on my side the whole time and never made me feel like I was insane or stupid or that I would fail. I completely took that for granted at the time- though not really in a negative way. It just never occured to me that you wouldn’t support me, and I think that’s a perfect example of how much we are on the same page about things.
You are without a doubt my very best friend. You get me- from my stupid jokes to my love of organization & lists to how sometimes I just need to be crabby without you fixing things.
This week we are on vacation in the same place where we spent our first week as husband and wife. The big difference now is that we’re not just you & me anymore, we have Maggie with us. I used to worry that we would change after having a child, and I think we have- but in a very very good way. It’s the three of us together, and it is awesome.
So I really just want to say Happy Anniversary. Thank you for being my husband, Turd Burglar. I love you.

Oh my goodness that was so awesome. Happy Anniversary! I am so glad you are so happy. It’s nice to read about relationships like this as I’m getting married in a few weeks. :P

you guys have an awesome marriage and i hope that mine will be that way, too. :D
Happy anniversary :)
You are the bestest, and so is Dan for finding you. And maybe for putting up with you. ;-)
Thanks for the reminder that the husband bitching is silly. Seriously.
Congratulations on the last seven years! By the way, I find it pretty neat that we share the same name, our husbands have the same name, and that you call your husband turd burglar — I call my husband that too!
This made me tear up a little because I often forget to tell Chuck just how much I love and appreciate him and all he does for me. Happy Anniversary to the two of you!
I meant to tell you that we drove past the Corolla Light Inn several times while on vacation…we stayed in a house right down the road from it!
this made me cry.
beautiful.
Awww happy anniversary you two…that was so sweet! And hello time-check…has it REALLY been more than 7 years since I first started following your journal??? Holy cr@p!
