our daughter, The Kid.
Just a quick house update before I move onto the real post: Nothing much new to report. Between Friday, Saturday, and the open house on Sunday, we had about 12 buyers come through. They all have pretty much said the same thing: ‘Love the house! Beautiful! But we just started looking/master bedroom is a little small/not sure about the slope in the backyard.’ All of these are things we have no control over, so we wait. The good news is we are getting generally good feedback and we are having lots of traffic. Another showing tomorrow and 2 more scheduled for Friday. We leave for vacation (!!!) on Sunday and we have until June 15 to sell before the contract on the new house is up. We can still keep ours on the market at that point and hope we sell ours before they do, then we can put in another offer on it, which is most likely what we will do if we have to. But REALLY? I HOPE WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THAT. In fact, Universe, it would be awesome if we had an offer come in this week before we left for the beach. Not that I’m being demanding or anything. Just a suggestion. KTHXBAI.
In other news, my kid? Is turning awesome. Sure, she’s still a toddler and has many moments of crankiness, but the past couple of weeks have seen a dramatic decrease in the Not Listening To Mommy And Daddy Moments. That has been great for everyone, and we’ve been having so much fun with her.
She’s really growing up. She turned 26 months old last week. We’re getting to the point where counting in months is kind of weird, actually. I mostly say ‘She just turned 2.’ when people ask how old she is, because saying ’26 months’ just sounds and feels awkward. But TWO sounds SO OLD. WHAAAA, MY BABY IS TWO.
She’s talking in full sentences all the time, though we’re probably the only ones who understand her most of the time (she likes to add about 8 extra syllables to things.) She is becoming quite helpful around the house- she likes to help me unload the dishwasher. She does just the silverware (after I quickly remove the actual sharp utensils) but she can see up into the drawer and puts them in the right slots (even if they are upside down!) After the silverware is emptied, she announces, ‘ALL DONE!’ and wanders off to play.
Maggie is also turning into quite the joke-ster and entertainer. She loves to make us laugh and acts like a complete goofball most of the day. She likes to randomly run up behind me and pinch my butt. ‘PINCH!’, she yells. She loves being the center of attention at family gatherings (which is a given since she’s the only kid on either side) She sings constantly: nursery rhymes, songs from her Disney CD or her Disco Dance Party CD we listen to in the car, and lately even some songs from Cinderella.
Oh Cinderella. She’s been obsessed with this lately. Every morning after breakfast, the first question is ‘Watch Cinderella?’ Sometimes it’s not even a question. ‘Watch Cinderella!!!’ She sings the songs with the mice, and today I caught her repeating the mean words that Cinderella’s step-mother says (‘CLEAN IT! WASH IT! DO IT AGAIN!’) She also gets very concerned when Cinderella’s necklace is ripped off by her step-sisters.
She loves books too. Dr. Suess is turning into a big favorite, along with a huge, awesomely illustrated nursery rhyme book. She will sit and ‘read’ to herself for quite a while, singing and talking about the pictures and using her imagination to tell herself the stories.
And smart. I know everyone says this about their kid and really a lot of kids are smart. But she never ceases to amaze us with her memory. I forget sometimes that she just turned 2 because the things she remembers are mind-boggling (even the things I don’t WANT her to remember!) She remembers where specific things are in Grandma’s house- toys, mostly. She talks about how we went on PapPap’s boat a couple of weeks ago- like I’m having a full conversation with my kid about this! She knows it’s Molly’s (our real estate agent’s) name on the for sale sign in our yard. And she’s talk talk talking about our beach trip next week, who is going to be there, we’re going to ‘pway in da sand’ and ‘svim in da wat-ahr’ (complete with swimming motions!) She also remembers if I randomly promised her something in the car just to get her to SHUT UP, OH MY GOD. An hour later at home? She remembers. CRAP. Gone are the days of fooling my kid.
Mostly though, she just cute. The hair? It kills us dead.

We have so much in common. We’ve had our house on the market and I’m OVER IT. Evacuating for showings is just wearing me out ( thank you pregnancy and toddler.)
In more fun news, Lily is also doing many of these things (dishwasher helping! crazy memory!) and it’s fun to have a real companion now!

argh I know. Do you have pets? If we still had the cats to deal with during this, I’m fairly certain I would have lost my freaking mind by now.
Sounds like great feedback, just need the right buyer to come along – and they will. The timing issue has got to be stressful though. I wish you better luck this week!!
Maggie is adorable and full of personality! It’s so awesome and so bittersweet to watch them grow from baby to toddler to preschooler…

Everyone always mentions the “terrible two’s”, but with both of my boys the 2′s were pretty good. The 3′s, on the other hand. And then the 5′s with their opinions on EVERYTHING.

Oh, they are so awesome, aren’t they? I wish I could express my thought as eloquently as you; I have thought each of these things about Abby, but can never seem to get it into words! She has definitely turned into a little person for us now, too, carrying on conversations and remembering the craziest things. I love being a dad and having a daughter!
And yes, Maggie is quite the cutie!

aw thanks! I realized I have been slacking on my Maggie Stories lately (what with all the House Distraction!) I don’t really feel all that eloquent about it, I just want to get it down so years from now we can look back and remember how she was now. They just change so darn quick!
Maggie is just adorable! I really, really hope the house situation goes your way really soon!!
Lincoln is just now starting to really talk and learn new words…I guess boys are a little slower at this since they concentrate on the physical stuff first (that’s what Babycenter said so I’m going with it!!) and it is fun.
Hopefully this week will be a great week for house selling!!

Oh she’s so cute! I hope one day I can meet her in person :)
Good luck with the house. I really hope you get an offer soon.
Great photos–her hair really is adorable!
And yeah, the whole remembering-what-mommy-promised thing? Not so amusing!
She’s adorable. :)
I love this stage now!
I am finding 26 months to be challenging. Maybe when Eleanor stops hitting her brother every chance she gets.
CMU’s infant cognition lab is doing a study with 26 month olds right now. Kinda fun, and something different to do. Let me know if you want info.

We had way more drama around 18-20 months, and then a bit at 24 months (with not listening!!!) But there’s no sibling so the dynamic is probably a lot different! heh
She is so cute!!
Still wishing you guys luck! It’ll happen eventually. Hopefully sooner than later, for your sake. I can’t imagine the crazy nerves. Just buying our house about drove me batshitcrazy and we didn’t even have to shop around.
Maggie is so cute! I still can’t believe she is over 2 years old. It seems like just yesterday I was reading about your pregnancy and then anticipating the news of her arrival. Crazy how time flies!
She is such a cutie! Cinderella seems to be so popular with little girls. My friend’s almost two-year-old loves Cinderella and when I was about 3 I was obsessed with that movie.

Oh my gosh she really is adorable. I think it’s so cute how she’s doing all these new little cute things.
I also looooved Dr. Seuss as a kid.
I wish you the best of luck with getting your house sold and being able to get the house that you have your eye on. I can only imagine how stressful that would be. Here’s to hoping that something good happens before you leave for vacation!
And your baby is two… my baby is going to be FIVE in four months! It seems like just yesterday that I had her. And my son is going to be three in a month. It’s mind blowing. They grow so quick!
Sending you lots of good house vibes. We just had the inspection on our townhome today, and let me tell you, that is every bit as much fun as you think it is. FREAK OUT.
I hear you on the amazed by what they do. Alexis asked me the other day, “Does Z-O-O spell zoo?” I almost fell over dead. Who told these kids they were allowed to grow up?
The hair is, indeed, fab. Gawd I hate Cinderella. Thank Jehovah for boys.
PS – good luck on your house.

I had to laught about the promising things in the car and her remembering it because Sofija has started the same. I learned my lesson a few weeks ago when I promised her we could watch Dora when we got home if she was a good girl. 2 hours later, we get home and the first thing she does is run to the couch, says Dora and Boots and hands me the remote LOL
