what I’ve been doing instead of blogging, part 2

This time, unfortunately, it hasn’t involved cute pictures of my kid outside playing in the warm spring weather.

It has involved puke. LOTS AND LOTS OF PUKE.

The poor kid started with a fever yesterday afternoon and capped off the day with some puking in the kitchen, then later some MAJOR puking in her crib (in which Gossie- one of Maggie’s favorite books- took a large portion of the damage and had to be relocated to the trash. Note to self: Buy a new Gossie!)

The night included stripping of her soiled sheets, blankets, and outfit at 10:30pm, some snuggling and finally back settled and asleep by 11:30pm. Then around 2am she woke up and slept fitfully until around 4, at which time I gave in and brought her to the couch. That’s when she started dry-heaving and sobbing and OH MAN was it sad. She just kept whimpering and looking up at me with her big green eyes and wrapping her arms around me. SAD.

She woke up this morning with a low fever (101ish). She was really thirsty so I gave her some water in a sippy which was my mistake, because the kid doesn’t understand the concept of ‘Drink it slowly!’ and she drank too fast and threw up a little bit again. Awesome. So I got a regular cup and she sipped out of that and was able to keep it down. We pretty much laid around and watched Sesame Street and The Little Mermaid most of the morning (she took a catnap during that one) Then she perked up and had some more water and asked for some goldfish crackers. She also asked for yogurt and milk to which I said HAHA no way kid, I’m not cleaning that up again. It’s dry crackers and water for you!

Thankfully, her diapers have all been wet today so she’s not getting too dehydrated yet.

We played a little bit in her room and then she went down for her normal nap- slept almost 3 hours. Now her fever is 103. YIKES. She had a bit more water and now is settled in watching Simba. I gave her some Motrin so hopefully that will bring the fever down a little bit. I hate seeing her flushed cheeks and tired eyes.

So today has been kind of a bummer, aside from the good amount of work I got done because she’s been napping or laying around most of the day. Tell me something fun!

  4. Sucks. Andrew hasn’t been that sick this winter, but he’s on antibiotics right now on account of a 103+ fever, screaming, and pulling at his ears (=ear infection). He’s back to his normal self for the most part. I hope she’s feeling better soon!!

  6. @Laura: oh no, poor Andrew! I hope he gets better soon too. It’s such a bummer when they’re not themselves :(

  7. @Melissa: man, Oliver must have a super-immune system. You’ve been so lucky with him not getting sick!! I don’t think it helps of course that Maggie goes to daycare twice a week, she picks up everything there :( She was doing a lot better this evening though, and she went to bed early so hopefully she can sleep it off and be back to normal tomorrow!

  8. Aw, Maggie…. She needs a bubble to stay in for a while! :)

  11. First, I’m jealous of @Melissa that Oliver has never had a fever. Second, (and what is incredibly depressing) I have nothing fun to tell you. I am officially putting 2009 on notice.

  12. @Sunshine: And I do NOT blame you for putting 2009 on notice! You guys have been hit HARD this winter!!! :( Here’s hoping Spring brings health!
