snow day

Today was the first time this winter that we’ve had a significant snowfall- about 6 inches at our house. And it was also a Saturday when we were at home, and it wasn’t incredibly freezing outside. So we thought it was a great day to take Maggie out in the snow for her first time EVER.

To say it wasn’t a success would be an understatement.

not liking this.

She LOVED putting on her snow clothes. She squealed with delight when I helped her put on her boots. She giggled as I buckled the straps on her snow pants. And she actually helped me zip up her jacket.

When Dan took her outside (I was still inside, getting on my snow clothes), she stood for a moment or two in the snow. He threw a bit of it at her jacket, and she giggled. But then she stumbled and fell and then that was the end of Playing In The Snow.

In her defense, she’s still not quite back to her normal self after being sick last week. And we were so excited about taking her out to play that we forgot to feed her a snack after her nap, which is her usual routine. So she also may have been hungry (which = cranky. SO much like her parents with the blood sugar cranky issues!)

So, we’ll try again another day. I think eventually she might venture off of the front stoop. Maybe.

This is such a cute post – I LOVE the look on her face… too bad she didn’t like the snow. I think Heidi loved it her first time… she just sat down and didn’t move much (this was last year)…

Maybe it’d be better when she’s fully recovered from puke-fest 09. Hopefully it will be anyway – snow is so much fun! :)

Aww, a lot of kids don’t like snow. It’s like nothing they’ve ever seen and it’s scary and cold!! She looks cute in her snowsuit though!

Aw. Still so cute, though. I’m sure she’ll love it eventually and you’ll be begging her to please come back inside the house!

We had a foot of snow here and I felt bad because Oliver kept asking to make a snowman, and I tried to show him that it wasn’t good packing snow, but he didn’t understand. :( Oh well, I’m sure we’ll all have PLENTY more opportunities to play with our kids in the snow before the winter is over!!

@Melissa: oh that’s such a bummer! Because here the snow was AWESOME packing snow- it was light and packed immediately. I could have knocked Dan out with a snowball… if I could hit him. hehe I tried and missed like 3 times. I’ve never been very good with sports involving aiming and throwing. LOL

jackson has been talking about snowmen and snowballs since the first flakes flew months ago. today, we got nothing compared to you. maybe 1 inch if we’re lucky. bummer for jack, he watched the weather with me on the news all week and he thought it was gonna be “snow” great. i felt bad but to be fair… we had gotten tix a couple months ago (way before all the unemployment nonsense…) to go see elmo today – so it wasn’t a total loss for him today!!! it was great too! jack wants to go back to sesame street tomorrow too!

We got the same reaction yesterday! We went to my aunt’s house yesterday and all Maria’s second cousins were sledding, even Grandma and the other aunts/uncles were out there, but Maria did not want to go “whee”. She just wanted me (not Daddy) to hold her while she pointed at the people going “whee”.

This past February we actually got enough snow to make going out and playing fun, which is rare in Kentucky. So I layered Allie in clothing. After layering and layering her, we got outside. She stuck her gloved hands down in the snow. Then she started crying and look at me and demanded that we go in. ‘It is WAY too cold out here,’ she said. Allie loves the idea of snow, but when she is actually in the snow, she is unbearably miserable. It’s sort of amusing. (I know that sounds bad, but it really is hilarious to watch her freak out over the snow after begging to go play in it.)

yep, that sounds like Monkey’s first time in the snow, too! those pictures crack me up.

Now, she cannot wait. Thank goodness for parents who live in Erie (MY parents, I mean) and a Pap-pap who will play in the snow with his granddaughter.

    ciao,
