so glad that week is over.June 28th, 2008 @ 3:27 pm
I am happy to report that yes, in fact, we did make it through Thursday night vomit-free. The last 2 nights, actually! So yay! However, Thursday night did include lots of interrupted sleep, so much so that I only logged about 4 1/2 hours when it was all over.
Normally, not a huge issue, if it’s a day when we are staying home and I can be lazy and tired and possibly take a nap. But Fridays are work days for me, and I had a meeting downtown with a client so I needed to moderately coherent. Never did I wish I was a coffee drinker more than Friday morning. The meeting was fine though (a little less productive than I had hoped, and it wasn’t because I was comatose and drooling on the conference table. The project is stuck in a ‘getting-ready-to-get-ready’ pattern that is putting a damper on things.) After the meeting was over, I walked a few blocks to my favorite restaurant to get some lunch and also some take-out for dinner. I felt a little bit like a loser eating lunch by myself (am I the only one who feels weird about that?) but after my first bite of java fried rice, I got over it and was in tastebud heaven. I wish I could eat there every week like I did when I worked in town, but I’ll take what I can get.
Last night my darling, lovely, awesome husband took over baby monitor duty so I was able to get some sleep. 10 hours, in fact. Maggie only got up once around 4am (and Dan took care of it!) and we all slept until 9. NINE! Angels sang and butterflies fluttered and unicorns danced when I rolled over and saw 9:03 on the clock this morning.
And we may have discovered another big reason for Maggie’s ridiculously tough week. Not only did she have The Cold & Sore Throat From Hell, but we are 99% sure we can see and feel her first molar on the right side. FUN! I love when all this stuff coincides, it makes for a great week. AHEM.
Now we are about to leave for a party at Dan’s co-worker’s house. The last (and only) time we took Maggie to their house, she was about 5 months old, and all she did was scream. Hopefully that doesn’t happen tonight, or I may just end up in a padded room somewhere.
Happy weekend, everyone!

That’s so great that you got to sleep! What a nice husband taking over like that for you :)
And yes, I do feel a bit awkward eating by myself. It happens rarely, but if I don’t have a book I feel tremendously strange just sitting there looking around!
Isn’t it funny how things always come together? Of course she couldn’t just be teething, she had to be sick AND teething!

I LOVE Spice Island. I eat there as often as I can. It’s probably my favorite restaurant - or at least my favorite moderately priced one. Eleven’s up there, too.
And no - I absolutely love going to lunch (or movies or shopping or whatever) alone. I think being an only child trained me for that. But I don’t get the opportunity often.

I used to hate the idea of eating alone, or even just waiting for someone I was meeting… until I had a child. Now I’m ok with it because I get to sit down and have someone wait on ME! :)
And 10 hours of sleep? Dan rocks! I might have to pass this idea along… ;)
Hopefully next week will be easier for all of you!

@Allison: I had my notebook from my meeting, so at least I had that open while I waited for my food :)
@Melissa: Even though I felt like a huge loser, I will admit that it WAS nice to have 30 minutes alone by myself! I didn’t have to pick anyone’s sippy cup off the floor, or cut up anyone’s food… hehe that was definitely a good thing.
@Gina: I also love how Spice Island looks like a complete dive on the outside- just goes to show you how you can’t judge a book by its cover! There’s good food inside there!!

Sleeping until 9? Holy cow! Yeah, I swear I would be hearing “hallelujah” if that happened and it wasn’t because I was deathly ill.
I never heard of Spice Island, but I absolutely LOVE Thai food. I will definitely have to keep it in mind!

I HATE eating by myself. Actually, I just won’t do it! If I have one or both kids with me, then I don’t mind but I will not go to a restaurant and eat by myself. I just feel like everybody is staring at me b/c I’m alone (which is utterly ridiculous!).
