Last night I met some fellow Pittsburgh Mama-Bloggers for a night out on the town- MUCH needed for all of us, plus it was a great excuse to meet in person! There were 8 of us in total: me (um, DUH.), Karen, Gina, Kim, Michelle, Allison, Irene, and Susan.
Now, just about all of them were new to me. I’ve been reading BurghBaby’s Mom for a while (she was the ringleader in all this, by the way) but the other ladies are new reads for me so I was excited (and nervous!!) to meet them all. Which was of course silly and ridiculous, because you know what? We had a fabulous time. Really!! There was no shortage of things to talk about- everything from our idiot waiter (Gina describes him PERFECTLY) to our kids to comment trolls and weird search term hits and freaks on Flickr to funny vacation stories to Twitter etiquette. We ate and laughed and got to know each other, even when it was almost like we really all knew each other already. Which… I guess we kind of did in way.
The big surprise of the night was presents that Gina brought in her stylish ‘Iggle bag.
Earrings that she made (MADE! Crazy!), a little candle, and some special chocolate. The chocolate? Was to remind us of the husbands/boyfriends we left behind at home.
Horses asses. HEEEE! I heart Gina.
After the appetizers and food and rolling our eyes for eleventy-billionth time at our waiter Brandon, a few of us ordered dessert. I went for the chocolate creme brulee (mmmm) and two more went for the carrot cake. Supersized, apparently.
We laughed over the monstrous desserts and then paid our bills (with some struggling, again, from Brandon The Worst Waiter Ever) We headed over to Starbucks and spent the next hour or so just hanging out on the sidewalk (it was a gorgeous evening) and chatting some more. A few times it hit me how weird it must seem to non-bloggers, how a bunch of women who’ve never met, in a wide range of ages (early 20s to 40s), and some of us barely even have read a week’s worth of each other’s lives via blog. Yet here we were, laughing and cracking jokes like we’ve known each other for years.
The night had to end eventually (we all had to go rescue husbands and babysitters, back to reality!!!) so we said our goodbyes with plans to get together again soon. The plan is to try to do something every month or so- kind of a ‘make it if you can’ thing. So any Pittsburgh-based Moms out there with blogs- let us know you’re out there!
I of course was exhausted today, partly because I was out late (got home a bit before midnight! I’m such a wild one!) and partly because yesterday was just a long day. Work in the morning, meeting in the afternoon, which was only a few miles from where dinner was last night- about a 40 minute drive from home, and I got to do that drive twice in 6 hours. Then Maggie woke up at 6:45 today (WHAT.) Dan went to help his dad launch their boat today (we’re going boating tomorrow!!) and while he was gone and Maggie napped this morning, I planted flowers and did some yard work for 2 hours. So… very tired.
But it’s a good tired :)

What fun it was! But darn - looks like I missed the best part. Starbucks! Every month get-togethers! Drat that commute that I have.

I’m dying all over again after seeing the horse ass photos. You did a kick ass job of taking those photos! (Just don’t kick YOUR horse’s ass, at least not until he really deserves it.)
So fun, and I’m so glad we get to do it again!

I was going to complain about how horrible I look in those photos, but instead I got distracted by the fact that one of your earrings looks bent. I gave you DEFECTIVE EARRINGS!!!!
Also - I don’t think that photo quite expresses the ginormity of the cake.
Finally - that is not an Iggle bag. THAT IS MY POCKETBOOK!

I.AM.SO.JEALOUS.
I was counting crazy pills for a crazy lady who kept yelling at me about the pitfalls of health care in America. It was not fun. So jealous!

Yes, SOOOO fun!!!! And your photos rock! You did a great job capturing the whole evening. I wish I could have stayed a little longer, but I knew I would have a little trouble with the drive home. I was so overtired by the time I got home I literally couldn’t sleep. Then my kids got up WAY too early, we did WAY too much yard work and ended up staying way too late at my in-laws cottage. By late last night I was so tired I was completely miserable…..but am SO ready to do that again!!!

@Karen: Well perhaps next time it will be a daytime thing, so the long drive won’t be in the dark :)
May 25th, 2008 @ 11:14 am
@Burgh Baby: hehe thanks… everyone always teases me about being a photo dork, I take pictures of everything. Always good to document things, you never know when they’ll come in handy! :)

@Gina: lol okay I stand corrected- your POCKETBOOK! And you look HOTT lady.
I just checked the earrings, and it was only a little bent- I probably did that myself! ha! But I was able to straighten it out, so no big deal. I still love them!
May 25th, 2008 @ 11:18 am
@Melissa: Well you should just move to Pittsburgh then! (I may have ulterior motives, like, I just want you to live closer DANGIT.)
May 25th, 2008 @ 11:19 am
@Corrie: Next time, girlie. NEXT TIME, for sure!!!
May 25th, 2008 @ 11:20 am
@Irene: I can’t imagine your drive home- I only had about 40 minutes, and I was almost falling asleep myself!! And yeah, I overdid it yesterday too, darn nice weather making us all do yard work, haha Definitely worth it though!

Love the chocolate, how very creative. And she made the earrings too! Wow just wow. Can I sign up to be another Mrs. Gina? She’s beautiful too, you all are. What a great thing to be able to meet new sister friends all because of the internets. Those that don’t get it or are scared of it, ahem Kathie Lee ahem, too bad for them.

Jen, it was great meeting you and the rest of bloggy moms in the ‘hood. (God, that sounded incredibly stupid, didn’t it?) Thank you for capturing both the horse’s ass and the slice of carrot cake that could feed a small nation! Hope you’re enjoying the rest of the weekend.

Yay! It was so fun to meet you :)
I stole your photos form that evening, hope that’s okay!
It was amazing how easily we all got along, especially with our very different ranges, as you mentioned! How fantastic. Sorry I missed out on the last bit of the evening.
