next step? potty training!

(I’m totally kidding in the title, just so you know.)

Dan watched Maggie tonight while I went to a Pampered Chef party (I won a prize! And spent money I totally shouldn’t have [on a potato peeler and corn cob knobs and a wicker serving basket] since I’ll be spending a CRAPLOAD of money on Monday getting my car air conditioner fixed! But whatever! It’s Friday! And it was a party with GROWNUPS! And cheese!)

When I got home a little while ago, the house was quiet. Maggie was asleep, and Dan was on the couch wearing his (nerdy) wireless headphones, playing XBox. He removed the headphones and immediately said ‘Your daughter is a turdstain.’ (I love how she’s MY daughter in these situations.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, she did something tonight she has never done before. EVER. And I gave up hope that it would ever happen in my lifetime.

She put herself to bed. SHE. PUT. HERSELF. TO. BED. !!!!!

She was snuggling on Dan, drinking her bottle after her bath. She started squirming, which usually means she’s not ready for bed and wants to play for a while. So he put her down on the floor, and she walked back to the hallway to her room. He followed her and saw that she had stopped by her crib and was looking up at him. Naturally he thought No way, this HAS to be a trick or something. but he went along with it, picked her up, and put her in the crib.

That was over 2 hours ago, and not a peep has been heard since.

Now, she hasn’t been particularly difficult to get to bed at night in a long time (with the rare occasion of being sick or teething, of course) But she always required some snuggling from Mom before taking her into her room and giving good night kisses, and we would sometimes go through several rounds of us going back to calm her down. Sometimes just 10 minutes or so, sometimes as long as half an hour. But she has NEVER gone back to her room by herself, all ‘Hey guys! I’m tired! Time for bed!’

This is a monumental day, my friends. MONUMENTAL.

I think I loved the going to bed thing even more than the going on the potty thing.

You are going to love that peeler.

Wow, I’m impressed!!! Oliver has never, not once, gone up to his room to go to bed. If we didn’t stick his little butt in the crib, bedtime would simply never happen… heh. But OF COURSE Maggie waited to do this on a night you’re gone, right? That figures! lol :)

@Melissa: lol yeah, of course :) Although she kind of did at it naptime today too!! She was wiggling and resisting the normal snuggling, so we put her down and I said ‘Are you ready for a nap? Want to go in your crib?’ and she TOTALLY toddled down the hall and into her room to her crib. She didn’t fall asleep immediately (I had to go in once to ‘reset’ her, heh) but yeah… miracles never cease!!!
