break time

I’ve been having a wee bit of trouble keeping up with Life lately. Since we got home from vacation last Saturday, we haven’t sat still for very long. Father’s Day at my parents’ house on Sunday, back to the daily grind on Monday. Dan at work each day, me juggling work (LORDY, why does going on vacation always sound like a horrible mistake when you get back and see ALL THOSE EMAILS you ignored while playing on the beach?) and Maggie and laundry and shopping and dinner while he’s gone.

And this weekend was crazy too. Because I like to add in more projects to make life interesting, Saturday morning I stained our new mailbox post (looks fabulous!) and then we went to Dan’s cousin’s graduation party, which was a lot of fun, but I think it wore us out. Maggie was already starting to get a little cold. She was up Thursday night for a few hours (so I was still trying to catch up from that night of FOUR hours of sleep, argh) and then started with a runny nose on Friday. She only napped for an hour on Saturday morning before we left for the party (how do they ALWAYS know the days when you really need them to take a good nap and they refuse??) and then spent all afternoon on the swings and playing on the little playground.

Sunday Dan went golfing with some friends, so after Maggie’s nap (another short one, of course) we headed to my parents’ house for a visit. It was a gorgeous day, so we went to nearby park and AGAIN Maggie played on the swings and slides for a while with Grandma.

She was so tired when we were done, she was rubbing her eyes and yawning. When we were almost home, she was almost asleep in the car and I thought we might be able to get her to take that 2nd nap… but alas, it did not happen. So by 7pm, she was exhausted. And so were we. Dan gave her a bath while I dozed on the couch (he had taken some ‘dozing’ time earlier- apparently golfing is tiring too!) We had Maggie asleep in bed by 7:45, which is unheard of. Usually she doesn’t fall asleep until 8:30 or 9.

Around 8:30 we decided we’d get settled in to watch the last 2 episodes on the DVD of 24 we had from NetFlix (we heart NetFlix!) The opening credits were just starting when we heard her coughing… then SCREAMING. I ran back to try to comfort her, but nothing helped. She sat up and was coughing and crying and then coughing so hard that she threw up in her crib. I picked her up and sat on the floor with her to try to calm her down, and she threw up AGAIN (luckily it missed me and got the carpet) She was hysterical, all hiccuping and sobbing and tears and coughing. But she wasn’t hot or anything, so no fever, thank goodness. I finally got her calmed down on the couch with a bottle and Baby Einstein while Dan cleaned up the puke and changed her sheet (Father and Husband of THE YEAR, people.) In a few minutes, she was almost asleep on me, so we put her back in bed and she was out again, this time for the night.

Of course this morning she woke up with a low fever (100.8 or something) and she’s really sleepy. It’s only just after 9 and she’s in her crib for a nap already. I have officially declared today “Stay Home In Our Pajamas Day”, where all I plan to do today is maybe a few loads of laundry. Maybe. And I will force myself to ignore the To-Do list I made yesterday of all the things I hope to get done this week. Unfortunately for Dan, he had to go to work, the poor sap. Maggie and me, we’ll be loser-ing it up today.

We really really need it.
