Maggie has been talking up a storm lately. 99% of it is gibberish and non-sense, but still quite entertaining. However, she does have a growing list of words she says repeatedly and on purpose:
- wee wee wee (as in, ‘This little piggy’. She plays with either her toes or my toes when she says it. And then I die of All The Cuteness.)
- quack (sounds more like a bad word for boy parts and also another word for a rooster. Cracks us UP. We are 12 years old.)
- duck (apparently her favorite animal)
- cat (‘tat’)
- oops (‘ooop’)
- car (‘ca ca’ – not entirely sure why the extra syllable)
- cookie (‘ca ca’ – and she gets sooooo excited about them)
- ball (‘ba ba’ – again with the extra syllable)
- ear
- ssshh (she puts her little finger up to her mouth and OH MY GOSH is it adorable)
- good girl (‘gah gah’ – the only reason we know this is what she’s saying is because she repeats it after we praise her for something, like not throwing her food on the floor or getting off the couch feet first instead of head first. It’s the little things, people.)
- pap pap (she hasn’t said this much lately, but she can do it.)
- shoes (LOVES THEM.)
- Hi
Most of these have just come about in the last 2 weeks. So I can only imagine in another month all the things she’ll be saying! She STILL won’t say ‘Mama’ or ‘Dada’ on command. She says the sounds, but not when she’s talking specifically about us. Little butt.

Oh, I love baby talk! Little Bear says “hi” constantly, and she says it in this loud, fake cheery voice, the way grown ups tend to say it to little kids. like, “Hi-iiii!” She’ll say it 40 times in a row. She also says “Mama” but she calls everything she loves mama… including her dad, brother and sister, aunties, the dog, her stuffed animals, and the laundry basket. And she says ‘baba” for bottle, but for some reason she always whispers it! she can say “no-no” and a very emphatic “yes”, but I don’t think she knows what they mean… she just repeats after me. what do you think goes through their minds?

It’s so fun when they start to talk! :) It’s amazing how their vocabulary just explodes after the first birthday. You’ll have to get video of Maggie doing the “shhhh!” thing, I bet it’s really cute!
It’s nice when they pick up more and more words because then they can let you know what they want, instead of just whining. It’s also harder because they know that YOU know what they’re saying, so you can’t just blow them off. ;)

Starting to talk is such an amazing thing to watch. Their faces are so incredible, as their eyes light up when they realize they are able to communicate. All good.
And hey, on the mama/dada front, NatNat said ‘Daddy’ first and constantly. I didn’t get anything for the longest time, and then one day out came “Mommy” and she’s been saying it ever since (especially at 3am!).
Maggie will get there, its just going to take a little more time, and then one day, she won’t stop talking… and you will miss the silence. ;)

I love watching their language unfold :) That is so sweet she says “wee, wee, wee.” My daughter loves that part too!

I love it when babies learn new things. I was in Sweden last summer and there was a 11 month old there who finally learned to say mama and she learned to point. It was super cute.

It’s so fun to watch them learn and grow. I just can’t believe how fast it all happens!! Such a big girl. :)
