Because I have become suddenly overwhelmed with work in the last week or so (seriously, WHERE DID IT ALL COME FROM? I mean, I’m happy that I’m getting a nice cash flow again, but man. Stop the insanity.) my poor daughter has had to entertain herself quite a bit during the day. Thankfully, she’s usually pretty content to just toddle around the living room in her Ocean of Toys, occasionally wandering over to me to say hello or pull on my leg. And I try to keep a good eye on her- things are pretty child-proofed, but as anyone with a curious toddler will tell you, YOU JUST NEVER KNOW.
Maggie spent most of the day yesterday pulling all of the DVDs out of the tv cabinet (prompting me to buy locks today, of course.) But it kept her happy and she couldn’t open them or really hurt herself or anything else, so I let her have her fun. Later on, I put them all back in and cleverly moved her piano in front of the door of the cabinet, thinking I am a Genius!
I must have been particularly absorbed in an email or something for several minutes, because I suddenly realized it was very quiet behind me.
No children were harmed in the taking of this photo. And the strategically-placed piano was promptly moved. Parenting FAIL.
Then today, we were shopping and I picked up a box of Maggie’s favorite new snack. It has Elmo on the box, so I showed it to her and she grabbed it excitedly and started babbling to her red friend. I spent the next few minutes comparing sippy cups and trying to see if I could find a Magic One That Will Work for My Kid (another story for another day) and I turned back to the cart and saw that apparently, she was hungry.
Never a dull moment, people. Never a dull moment.

Oh, it’s never a dull moment. I can’t tell you how many gnawed boxes and packages I’ve had to sheepishly hand over to the cashiers! ;)

Oh my gosh that is hilarious! It took me a minute to figure out what was going on in the first one, but that is VERY impressive!

@Jenn: yeah I was prepared for the cashier to ask me if I still wanted to buy it, since it has obviously been ‘tampered’ with. I didn’t want to have to tell her that MY DAUGHTER ATE IT. lol The lady didn’t even notice though :) I guess they probably see that kind of stuff a lot.

@Allison: hehe it took my husband a few seconds too- he couldn’t figure out how she was reaching up there! Then he realized what she was standing on, heh.

Is that the best you’ve got? Heh. You’re doing great, wumman. Seriously.
(This is coming form the woman who’s vegetarian daughter once gnawed a whole in a package of raw meat. Yuummm . . . e. coli, salmonella, listeria, etc.)

Aw… mommy, didn’t you know, Maggie needs munchies in the grocery store… its torture to have to look at all that good food to eat!!
I should write a blog entry about the time NatNat lifted a cucumber from the grocery store, and I only realized when she was chewing on it. yeah, that would be a cute entry.
Heck, I should just write an entry in general. ;)

@Burgh Baby: omg, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. That is SO GROSS. I probably would have thrown up right there in the store if that’s what Maggie had been chewing on!!

On Saturday, my 4 year old opened a box of knockoff dippin dots AND some plastic silverware and was eating when we rolled up to the cashier.

hey we have boxes like that… and luckily Rylan isn’t a climber, but she makes up for it with what she eats, currently its the dry wall off my windowsill. I really wish I was kidding.

Little kids are so smart, its scary! So did she actually chew through that cracker box, or did she just manage to rip it open?

@Nicki: She chewed right through it- I had to dig the cardboard out of her mouth in the store!

My daughter is addicted to dragging whatever objects she can find to use as stools. She is three, but like me, she doesn’t have the height thing going for her. I’m sometimes amazed at the things she used as her own little ladders.

The climbing is pretty normal around here. It’s the falling and whacking heads that gets me the big Fail.
Once, I had to have the checkout boy ring up one banana 4 times because my kids ate so many bananas while I was shopping.
