going waaaay back
A few weeks ago while Dan was out of town for work, I spent my evenings uploading old pictures to my Flickr account. (I posted my method of manipulating the upload dates so they’d show up in chronological order, in case you’re as anal retentive as I am and would like to use the info yourself!) My plan was to highlight some of the… ahem… really good ones here in a nice put-together post, but then came mysterious illnesses, sleepless nights, plus work and car shopping and house projects and here we are in May already!
So! Old pictures.
(These are ‘Friends and Family’ only in my Flickr stream, so if you click on them and get an error, that’s why.)
Here’s me as a baby, 1979. My shirt says ‘Caution: Wet at Both Ends’. Mom- do you still have this one somewhere?
And here’s my mom and me, circa 1980. She’s so pretty (and young- she was 20 here.)
Dude. Check out this shirt I wore in 1984. Man I was a weirdo.
Okay, enough with the cute kid pictures. Here I am at the awkward age of 11. One big ball of teeth, glasses, and hair.
Here is my sister and me at Disney World in 1991. I was at the age where going to Disney World with your family was like, SO TOTALLY LAME, MAN. There I am all knobby-kneed and puffy-banged, trying to pretend I didn’t want to be standing there with my sister in front of the big castle. How bershon of me.
I eventually grew into my hair and teeth and got contacts, and hey! I was even a cheerleader for a while.
My sister is going to kill me, but this is proof that she wasn’t always Ms. Gorgeous. We all have those Awkward Years, kid! I about peed my pants when I found this picture. (Not that I’m all Hot Stuff in this one, I mean, I’m wearing a NECKLACE with a BATHING SUIT AND ROLLERBLADES. Who does that? Me, in 1995.)
And fast-forward a few years, and Dan and I go to prom. Hard to believe this was 11 years ago.
That’s probably enough for now. There’s more good stuff in my ‘Childhood & High School’ set, and my ‘Random College Pictures’ set. I didn’t get a digital camera until late into my college days, so most pictures are scanned from 35mm prints. (Remember those days? Wow, that takes me back!)
Or, you can just view the entire collection of stuff I uploaded after-the-fact.
Or… you can go do something productive with your time. Whatever :)

VERY scary how I can relate to almost all of those photos. The fanny packs made me pee my pants a little. :)

@Holly: omg, I can’t believe I didn’t even comment on the fanny packs. I was so caught up in my obvious excitement at being there, I didn’t even notice them. Wow. We were just too cool for school, weren’t we?
I was just about to say-THE FANNY PACKS! I remember wearing one to Kennywood. Please Lord, don’t ever bring back the Fanny Pack.
I don’t know why you thought I would kill you for posting that picture…I think I look awesome in it. I haven’t changed a bit. :)
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
The red shirt, glasses, crimped hair, BANGS, and…
…the overalls…..
That is like five kinds of classy right there.

@Backpacking Dad: The only thing I *didn’t* have that year that I had in other years was braces. That would have been too much, you think?

@Michelle: I agree, you’re just as much a dork now as you were back then. Of course- so am I, really. WE ROCK!
You know, I don’t see Maggie in those baby pictures of you. Now we need to see Dan as a baby.
Your mom was SO YOUNG – she still looks the same though! (My mom was 35 when she had me!)

Yay, fanny packs! And high wasted white shorts. :D
And seriously, the one with the glasses and curly hair? So could have been me at that age….
Speaking of (not) doing something productive with my time, I looked through your entire photo set of home renovations the other night. I remembered most of the individual projects along the way, but wow! Great job!

This photoessay is AWESOME. and hilarious. Love your bangs (I had them too, in a bad way.)

@Maura: Thanks :) It’s been a long 4 years, but we’ve finally (almost) ‘finished’ the house. Just in time to move, ha!
I was going through the pictures keeping my fingers crossed hoping that there wouldnt’ be any pictures of me in the collection. I knew better though. Good Lord, I looked awful in every single picture but I do still love the one of you and I. I still remember that day and having that picture taken!

Um, WHICH one was supposed to be awkward?? Seriously, just wait till I find a couple old photos. I had about an entire DECADE of awkward. :P
Love the old photo of your mom and baby you. :)

@Priscilla: hehe yeah I hope you don’t hate me too much for including those ;) (They’re F&F only so no freakshows will stumble upon them) I like the one of us too! Especially my teal-colored overalls. So Hott.

@Melissa: um, ALL OF THEM. From about 4th grade until 8th grade, Dan likes to refer to those as my ‘molting’ years. He’s such a sweetheart.
Yeah right, how could I hate you?! At least we survived the awkward days together!! Along with crying over boys, stressing about school and friendships, etc. Gosh I am so glad we are not in middle school anymore!!

You were always so pretty and still are!!!! Your mom in the one picture looks like Michelle!!! Oh how I miss the 90′s and high school!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to go back for a day!!! I was in the high school for my sisters art show and WOW was that weird!!! yes my sister is in 8th grade!!!!!!!!
I just had to tell you that II wore the exact same dress (I think) to my high school formal. Was yours shimmery green when you turned in the light? :) Very fancy.
Twitter: jayesel
@Lauren: hm, no it was more shimmery silver- but I know exactly what green you’re talking about! The shimmery ones were all the rage back in the late 90s :)
