So when I scanned in all of my old pictures I was able to change the embedded digital date from the scanned date to the date (and time) it was taken. And when done in batches it's even possible to change the date and time of all the pictures in the batch while preserving the time intervals between them (only useful for batch re-stamping digital photos, since they will have some kind of time interval embedded already).
