what I did this past weekend: an essay.
You know, kind of like those end of summer things you’d write when school started? Except with more snow and less vacation. And a lot more boring, probably.
Yesterday morning I had a dentist appointment at 9:30 (WTH? Why on earth did I schedule it that early 6 months ago? I must have been drunk or something.) I went clothes shopping after the dentist, thinking I’d only be gone until noon or so. HA! That shows how long it’s been since I’ve gone out to try on clothes. I didn’t get home until 2:30. Dan was Husband of The Year and stayed home with Maggie the whole time. (Bragging: He really is an awesome Dad, he is so good about giving me time to myself and to Get Things Done. He actually said they had a great time, playing and having fun. Of course, he was falling asleep on the couch by 9:30 last night so she definitely wore him out!) But while I was out by myself, I figured I should do as much as I could- who knows when I’ll get the opportunity again!
First stop shopping was New York & Company. I had a gift card, which I went through very quickly (so easy to do in that store!) I think I made 3 dressing room trips with HUGE piles of things to try on, and I ended up buying a winter coat (for $15!!!), a pair of denim shorts, 2 v-neck t-shirts, a pair of sunglasses and two pairs of earrings (2 for $12, who could resist?!) Not a huge number of things given the amount I tried on, but whatever. Old Navy for my favorite jeans- in 1 size smaller than I have right now! woot! I was also in search of a dress for a wedding we’re going to in April- I found one at Kohl’s (another gift card, woo!) but I’m not 100% on it, so I’m keeping the tags on for now in case I come across one I like better before then. I also got 2 new bras (does anyone else go through bras like crazy after having a baby? I think my boobs must weigh 900 pounds or something and stretch them out??) and a pair of sandals for summer. Score!
Question: Why is it so weird after a long winter to try on shorts and sandals? They just looked… WRONG. I’m just so not ready to see my white chicken legs yet, or my bare, un-manicured toes. It makes it really hard to make objective decisions about whether or not sandals look good. Blah.
I ate lunch alone at Salsaritas. I have to say: Moe’s is better. That’s the 2nd time I’ve eaten there, and we’ve decided it should be called ‘Salt-aritas’ because seriously, that’s ALL I COULD TASTE. The grilled chicken on my burrito was very very salty and other than that, no flavor. Big bummer.
When I came out of lunch, there was a nice mix of snow and ice coming from the sky. Nothing like our poor neighbors in Ohio (14 inches of snow??!??!) but messy and yucky for sure. I made one more stop at Lowe’s for Dan so I could pick up some things he needed for hooking up my dishwasher again (yay!) Of course once I got home, I realized I forgot to go to my sister’s to feed her cats- they are in Fort Lauderdale this week (SO JEALOUS) So I headed BACK out to do that. Luckily they only live a mile away. But by the time I got my butt home, it was after 3.
So, a long day. Either I am very very old or shopping is just THAT TIRING, because I was exhausted last night.
Today we went to my parents’ house for my uncle’s birthday dinner (roast and mashed potatoes, yum) and Maggie fought her way valiantly through her second nap. She’s been doing that quite a bit lately, so I’m thinking she might be slowly transitioning to only one nap a day. Which would be fine- except that first nap is usually only an hour or so. ARGH. She had a busy afternoon of flirting with my uncles and practicing walking with Grandma. She gets SO EXCITED when we hold her hands and walk with her- she’ll look down at her feet and screech and squeal and she goes SO FAST. I’m starting to wonder if she might not walk by her birthday. Lord help me.
So, weekend over. I’m just so glad that this week will be more normal than last week. I have my kitchen back, Maggie and I can stay home and get back into our routine. I like my routine. Probably a little too much!

I hate bras right now. I hate that I have to wear nursing bras, and I hate that they are so cheap. I was used to paying $35-$45 for a bra and by golly NOW I KNOW WHY. I tried one of my old, non-nursing bras on the other day and it was like heaven. HEAVEN. None of my nursing bras fit right. Sigh…

Yeah, not having the bra problem! In fact, it’s the only part of me that’s back to my pre-pregnancy size! sigh… so what’s going to happen to them as I continue to lose weight!
I think Maria is transitioning to one nap a day too. She is a rock star with morning naps (especially on the weekends), but afternoon ones are nearly impossible!
Speaking of impossible, last night was nearly impossible getting her down with that time change!

I *heart* NY & Co. also. When I shop there, I always drop about $300…thankfully, I only go there about 3 times a year. And it’s usually clothes that I can wear to work.
When Braden transitioned to 1 nap, he went from several short naps (less than an hour at a time) to one long nap usually about 3 hours. Hopefully, it will work like that in your case.
julie’s latest blog post: All about my pregnancy!
@julie: oh I know- NY&Co is addicting. They have such nice, classy stuff and even though it can be a little bit pricey, it’s still not quite as bad as some of the department stores and the quality of the clothes is great. But yeah, I spent my $100 gift card in no time! heh
That’s so funny you mentioned those Old Navy jeans, I just bought two pairs of that same kind! (pair? pairs? anyway, one in that medium wash and one in dark) And yay for spring shopping–that was great of Dan to give you some time to yourself!
Bras = hate. Just… hate. Pre-baby, post-baby, all the time, forever.
Oliver transitioned to one nap around 10-11 months… since then he takes a pretty long afternoon nap (from 12:30-1 until 3-3:30). But the changeover period was, well, not the most fun time. We were both kinda grumpy for a couple weeks. I’m sure you and Maggie will figure something out too. Just follow her lead, and hang in there!
Melissa’s latest blog post: toilet humor is the new flirty
@Melissa: It’s funny because I didn’t used to like Old Navy jeans, they never fit me right. But these new styles they have are great- they fit me nearly perfectly, which is quite a shock! And I agree, bras ARE EVIL.
I’m bracing myself for ‘the switch’ with her naps. It’s been happening here and there for a few weeks, but we thought it might have been because she was sick. But now… not so sure! It’s just hard right now because it’s unpredictable so I can’t plan much during the days. For example, today I wanted to go grocery shopping but that didn’t happen!
I tried Old Navy’s diva jeans and apparently I’m not a diva because they did not fit right…I may have to try the flirt ones.
I like Salsarita’s but I’ve only ever gotten nachos where you pick what you want on it and I’ve never had the chicken. As for Moe’s, their burritos are so freaking huge!! My mom and I wondered how we were supposed to eat them but they were so good!!! I loved their nachos with the cheese sauce…yum!!
I don’t even want to think about putting on shorts…argh, I need to get to the gym!!
@Priscilla: Yeah I’m not a Diva either- they were cut WAY too low for me. The Flirt ones are perfect- not too high, not too low, about an inch below my belly button which is perfect for me. Plus, they don’t feel like they’re painted on my butt, which is nice. heh.
I heart Moe’s. And yes, the burritos are huge, but of course I can eat it plus a ton of chips. And their queso and green salsa is AWESOME.
I miss Moe’s. I may be Moe-Sick.
I am a Flirt. If I can get un-lazy enough to get to the mall, I am purchasing some Flirts, as the Diva showed a bit too much crack at the playground once.
Corrie’s latest blog post: My hand-eye coordination needs work
@Corrie: yeah the Diva is all about showing too much crack. Not really my style ;) hehe
