elusive sleep

It’s 5am, and we’ve been up most of the night. Fun! It’s been a Craptastic Week.

Maggie and I have been dealing with colds all week. Not terrible ones, just enough to make sleeping difficult and days seem endless. I haven’t slept all night since over a week ago, and neither has Maggie. Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from the daycare saying that she felt like she might have a fever. I was planning to pick her up early anyway (we had Valentine’s Day dinner plans) so I went to get her. She did have a low fever but was acting just fine once we got home. So my sister still came over to babysit while we went to dinner (about 5 minutes away, thankfully, in case we needed to come home quickly!) We didn’t get any frantic cell phone calls during our dinner, so yay! She was pretty sleepy when we got home though, and so were we from the long week, so we were all in bed by 9:30. On a Friday. Us = Too Cool For School, Baby.

Dan was ‘on duty’, since the night before I had trouble sleeping myself and even though Maggie only woke once for 20 minutes, I only slept for about 4 or 5 hours. Cold medicine just messes me up, argh. I was pretty tired yesterday. At around 2am, she woke up fussing and warm, so Dan gave her a bottle, some Motrin and brought her to the couch and she was up for about 2 hours. I finally came to rescue him- partly because SOMEONE should get some sleep, and I was having trouble sleeping again anyway. I didn’t fall asleep until somewhere around 11, and even then I was tossing and turning and waking up every hour or so. Three hours of sleep total, I think. Awesome. Dan went to bed and I snuggled on the couch with Maggie and we watched Sesame Street. Fifteen minutes later, she was passed out in my arms. Poor baby girl.

I’m not sure what the deal was tonight, because I didn’t take any cold medicine. I HATE when I can’t sleep. I hate when I can’t turn my mind off. I wasn’t even thinking of anything particularly stressful or anything that would make me stay awake. And a lot of what was going on in my head was almost dream-like and didn’t make any sense… lucid dreams or something. It makes me feel like I’m insane.

Thankfully this is a ‘Weekend de Loser’ as we like to call them, meaning we have absolutely nothing of importance planned and nowhere to go. I’m thinking a lot of naps will be taken. I’m getting my haircut later today, but that’s about it.

PS- I’m so tired and brain-numb that I had to Google the word ‘elusive’ in the title, just to make sure it was the right word I was thinking of. heh.

I hope that you and Maggie feel better soon, and next week is better than this past one was.

I love the Springfield Grille, there is one by me in Boardman, Ohio and it’s delicious. I’ve yet to try the Iron Bridge Inn or Rachel’s though.

Winter sucks, and colds suck. :( I hope you both get back to 100% and back to SLEEPING through the night this week!

Springfield Grille is really good! I’ve actually been to the same one Jenn mentioned above (it’s about 20 minutes from where my parents live).

Oh, and now you are going to look extra nice with your fresh haircut, and my hair will look all scruffy and sad. Maybe I will “forget” my camera at home… :P hehe

@Jenn: Rachel’s was our college hang out :) It’s not as fancy as the Springfield Grille or the Iron Bridge, more laid back and bar-like, but still yummy!

@Melissa: If it will make you feel better, I’ll wear messy hair that day ;) heehee

I am so hoping we can all sleep tonight. Maggie is taking her second nap right now- her first was 2 hours long! Sleepy, sick baby, yuck. I’ll make sure to de-germ the place by Saturday!!!!!

oh. We had fussy baby last night too. I’m exhausted from one night. Don’t know how I’d handle more than that! Good luck tonight!
