part of the human race again

I’m finally starting to come out of the fog and haze that was Saturday through Monday. I’m pretty sure Maggie had some sort of ear infection- fever, screamed bloody murder when we put her down anywhere (hence, NO SLEEPING FOR ANYONE.) and she had some very minor cold symptoms. But by Monday morning when I would have called the doctor, she had finally slept for a while, no more fever, and was almost back to normal. So it was either just something random, or she has her father’s immune system and fought it off with a good night’s sleep. In which case: THANK YOU, GOD. Dan is amazing like that, he’ll feel sick, sleep for 14 hours, and be all better by morning. Miracle. I feel sick, I sleep for 14 hours, and I wake up in a puddle of snot.

Let me just summarize Sunday until Monday morning for you: SUCK. At one point, I was so deliriously tired and frustrated, I had to put a screaming Maggie down because I was afraid of what I might do. That, my friends, can make you feel like the biggest pile of crap on earth. I love my baby, but that was just so hard. Reading Laura’s post yesterday made me remember that it’s okay to feel like that sometimes… I’m not alone. But man. This parent thing can suck sometimes. It’s almost worse after you’ve gotten the hang of things, baby is a little older, things are running smoothly… then BAM. SUCKAGE. Thank goodness for my husband being able to see that I was almost over the edge. He took Maggie to the living room Sunday night at around 10 to let me sleep until midnight. I told him if he needed me then, to come get me, so he could sleep since he had to work in the morning. I crashed, and the next thing I know, it’s 7:15am. And angels sang and unicorns danced and butterflies came out of little kitten bums.

Aaaaaanyway… so yeah. I’m catching back up with the world, I think. I de-decorated my house from Christmas, washed and folded 4 loads of laundry, almost finished up my new blog theme, and I even played some XBox yesterday while Maggie took a marathon 3-hour nap. We both needed her to take a 3 hour nap. Work is a bit slow right now (yay!) so I’m able to relax a bit on my non-daycare days. Which is nice. So, maybe I’ll eventually actually finish my 2007 Year in Review post? HA. Surely you’re crazy.

Also: it is January, right? Because I’m sitting here in my living room, with the window open, with the sliding doors to the deck open, and there is quite a pleasant spring-time breeze blowing through. I’m actually contemplating putting shorts on (and not just because I shaved my legs today. Yes, see, I told you I’m getting back into the swing of things! Personal hygiene and everything!) I just want to make sure I didn’t sleep through February and March.

  1. Glad things are settling down and Maggie’s feeling better! Oliver has never been sick, but I get tired and frustrated just from chasing him while he’s happy and healthy, so I can’t imagine how hard it would be if he was screaming and not sleeping!! :( (I am now knocking on wood, by the way.) Plus, George wouldn’t be available to back me up. You are so lucky to have Dan around (and willing!) to help. I know plenty of successful single moms, but dear Lord, parenting was really intended for two people. It’s HARD… even on good days. *hug*

Oh, and I love your twitter comment about the weather. “Global warming rocks!” lol!

  2. I know exactly how you felt about having to put Maggie down when you’ve just had too much. That has happened to me, and I too felt like the worst mom ever!

And I think you’re completely right to say it’s even more frustrating now that she’s older and we’ve had so many good nights that a bad night just completely throws you!

Glad Maggie and you are feeling better!

  3. Those put them down moments do suck… they really do… so glad your rejoining the world, its nice to do that and as soon as you feel in control again whamo…
    Well I ummm hope not!

Heidi got sick last week for the first time too. She had a high fever of 104.5… i was so panicked I took her to the hospital. Then realized that we’d be seen faster by our own doctor the next morning so we left… (wait times here are horrendous – i guess that’s what to expect with free healthcare).

Turns out she has Roseola (check on the net!). She got a nasty rash after the fever broke. Apparently it’s pretty common in kids under 2.

Anyway, hope everything else is looking up for you guys!
