five years

Five years ago today, I got married.

5 years ago today

After our short and relatively cheap honeymoon to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we moved into our first home together- a small, 2 bedroom apartment. We quickly settled into a blissful, married life. Since then… it’s been a whirlwind of STUFF.

We bought a house. Dan got his Masters degree. We got 2 cats. I had 2 jobs, then a career change to another job. I started a business. Dan had 3 jobs. We went to Italy. We had a baby.

Throughout all of that, the crazy-busyness of the last 5 years, we have been best friends. I don’t think that a lot of people can honestly say that about their spouses, so I feel very blessed to be able to say that with 100% truth. We are goofy together, have long talks about everything from family stuff to farting to politics to computer-geek talk. We get each other, and we understand things about each other without even speaking. And we have so many inside jokes that other people would NEVER get.

Dan, I love you. Thank you for being my friend and my husband and my baby’s father.

PS: I did end up getting some wood for our anniversary. heh. He gave it to me a little early (he is extremely impatient when it comes to giving gifts!) And because I think I had a touch of PMS (hello first period in almost a year?) and was going on 5 hours of sleep and dealing with an unusually fussy baby all day, I may have cried just a little when I opened it.

  4. I used to visit you at muted and have followed your move to this site and I remember when you were planning your wedding and when I first logged on and saw your wedding pics. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years. WOW! Congrats!

  5. I too have been reading since shortly after you got engaged, and I remember you picking out your wedding dress and buying a house and now you & Dan have a beautiful daughter together… it’s been fun tagging along through it all. Happy anniversary, and here’s to many more. :)

  6. I almost cried too and . . . it’s not my gift and I don’t even know you, except from your blog (could be my early pregnancy hormones)! I’m breaking the news on my blog in a few weeks. It’s still really early!

  7. I’m, like a lot of fellow commentors, a follower from way back at Muted, shortly after you two got married- congratulations!

I remember you two dating back at GCC (that seems like 100 years ago now).

Eric and I will celebrate 4 years in August. I agree completely that it’s the most wonderful thing to be married to your best friend.

    Congratulations on your anniversary!

  9. Congratulations. =)

Do you think you could have predicted, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” correctly?

  10. Aw, it’s a pretty gift!! Happy anniversary!

  11. Mr. and Mrs. Jen Kier :) Congratulations on 5 wonderful years together. I have to give Dan credit for the “wood” gift….I would have expected something from him without splinters!

    Love you both!

  12. Hey there just wanted to wish you and Dan a Happy Anniversary. I would have called, but I’ve been busy. Anyway…thanks for making my big brother so happy and being such an awesome sister in law. Love ya!

  13. Happy belated Anniversary! :)

  14. alliology: hm, in some ways, yes. I knew we would be happy for one thing :) And I figured we would have a house and at least 1 kid by now. But work-wise, I never imagined that I would be self-employed and working for myself! That’s definitely a shock. But overall, I think we’re right where I would have guessed :)
