Maggie, 2 months old

Dear Maggie,

On Monday, you will be 2 months old. Of course, this past Wednesday you turned 8 weeks old- which, isn’t that like 2 months too? I’m kind of confused with how the dates don’t line up, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter. Sooner than we realize we’ll be measuring your age in years rather than weeks and a few days won’t make much of a difference.

It’s impossible to believe that just 8 weeks ago, you were still inside my belly. I look at you and can’t even remember that time. It really is true when people say once you have a baby, you can’t really remember what it was like to NOT have them. I never believed that, but now I know. It has been a crazy, fun, frustrating, tiring, hilarious, amazing 2 months. You are starting to evolve from the wiggly, crying, tiny newborn you were into a baby who responds to us and boy, is it getting fun! For the first 4 or 6 weeks, the only reward we got for taking care of you were that you stopped crying. You basically had two states of being: crying or sleeping. Now we’re getting some positive feedback in the form of smiles and coos and that makes it so much better.

chubby

You are also growing like a weed suddenly in the last 2 weeks. You’ve moved into size 1 diapers and are finally fitting into your cute 0-3 month dresses which is very exciting. I can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with switching you to formula after weaning you from breastfeeding nearly 2 weeks ago… but who knows. It really is probably just a coincidence of timing. But either way, you are thriving and getting chubby little legs that we just want to chomp on all day. On Wednesday you go the doctor for your 2 month checkup, so we’ll see just how much weight you’ve gained. Also, and I’m sorry for this, you have to get some shots… which I’m sure will be more painful for me than for you.

You are just such a funny baby sometimes. We laugh so hard when you are filling your diaper, because you make an incredible production out of it (I like to think you get that from your dad) You scrunch up your face and your head gets all red and purple, and you grunt and grunt and grunt… then suddenly we’ll hear noises in your diaper and you relax and all is well again. And you get so frantically excited when it’s time to eat, once that bottle is in your mouth, you suck and squeak and grunt and groan and squish your hands on your face and make fists with your hands. All of that I think you get from me. I love to eat and it seems you’ve inherited that trait. Also, you seem to love getting your diaper changed, being all naked on the changing table. That’s when we get our best smiles and coos from you.

watching

This week you had your first ‘Big Girl’ milestone when we moved you out of your bassinet and into your crib. I wasn’t sure how you would take the change, but much like everything else, you were totally flexible and didn’t seem to mind one bit. You’ve been incredibly laid back about so many things, including when I starting giving you formula. You even take it cold- COLD! So Mommy doesn’t even need to warm it up if we’re out somewhere. You rock, Baby Girl.

There’s really not much else to say right now, other than we love you so so so much. Even when you wake me up at regular 2 or 3 hour intervals, once I’ve rubbed my eyes enough to focus on your pretty face, and shaken my head to clear it of whatever weird dream I was having, and I look down at you in your crib with your little bottom lip sticking out as you cry for a bottle… you are still my most favorite person in the world.

how fast do they grow up!

Milan laughed at me when I celebrated Sofija’s 8 week birthday and her 2 month birthday. I had to explain to him that 4 weeks is only 28 days..whereas 1 month is 30/31 days..therefore 8 weeks and 2 months..is NOT the same thing!

She’s doing beautifully, Jen. So’re you. My daughter Scarlett Neve was born on the 29th April and we’ve switched to formula too after 3 weeks of unsuccessful breastfeeding. Love reading your journey of motherhood..
