So far, 2007 has been pretty Not That Great. Dan got sick yesterday with some weird stomach virus thing. At first we thought it was because he drank some beer Sunday night at New Years Eve party (which was fun!) and that mixed with his asthma medicine or something (because he was not drunk enough to be THAT hungover!) but he was still a little sick today, so it must have been a bug. And if I don’t catch it, it will be a friggin’ miracle *crosses fingers*
While Dan was sleeping off the nausea yesterday afternoon, I spent about 3 or 4 hours fighting with our desktop computer. Seriously, I almost threw it out the window like 7 times. It’s almost 6 years old, and suddenly both hard drives (1 to run Windows, 1 for storage of files) have decided to poop out on us. It started freezing randomly, giving some ‘cyclic redundancy error’ (WTF? I had to ask Dan what that meant…?) and basically just being cranky. And of course I started to panic about losing all of my pictures and work files and music and MY LIFE as far as the computer goes, so I wanted to make sure everything was backed up on the external drive I got last spring. In between freezing and errors and going to my parents (by myself) for New Years dinner, I got everything mostly backed up and finished today. Now it’s Dan’s turn to fight with the thing and figure out if he can fix it by reformatting/reinstalling Windows, or if we should get a new hard drive. FUN!
Today was more productive, thankfully. I put the final coat of paint on the 2nd dresser for our baby’s room (Yes, I’m painting while pregnant. No, I am not Satan and no, I am not trying to give my baby brain damage. I’m trying to GET. STUFF. DONE. It’s not like I’m smoking crack or something.) My mom is coming tomorrow to take the baseboards off for me, because that’s a bit too much physical work for me right now. Then I’ll be able to get started on painting the walls and new baseboards and stenciling and all that fun stuff.
I also started organizing our kitchen. And because I’m sick and have some strange disease where I looooove to organize things, I was actually singing and squealing with delight as I installed 5 of these (I actually bought them at Lowe’s, gift cards for Christmas, yay!) in the cabinet next to our fridge and commenced putting everything in its own bin. Snacks and cookies on the bottom, then pasta, rice and noodles, then boxed dinners/flavored rice dishes/mac and cheese/etc, then spices and oils and sauces, then baking stuff, and finally adult beverages on the top shelf. I took pictures (and yes, Dan made fun of me for that) but since our desktop is still being cranky, I can’t download them yet. But just know that it is GLORIOUS to be able to open my cabinet and pull out the drawer and see what’s in the back. GLORIOUS. (I told you- I’m SICK.)
I still have some organizing I’d like to do in there, my pots and pans and baking dishes and the walk-in pantry…. but by the time I finished the painting and the organizing, my tailbone and lower back were KILLING ME. I am still not used to being pregnant and not being able to do the stuff I used to. My belly is getting quite large and leaning over and bending and all that is getting tough. And the scary thing?
I still have THREE MONTHS TO GO.

don’t worry - i painted when i was pregnant too, and Heidi didn’t come out ruined.. :)
i can’t believe you have 3 months left - it went so fast.. you’re getting to the fun part, where moving sucks, brushing your teeth sucks, sitting sucks, sleeping sucks, everything sucks cuz you’re too damned big! hehe… it was sooooo fun leaning over the sink to do dishes or brushing my teeth in the last trimester.. the belly kept getting in the way… but it was sooooo worth it :)
sucks about the computer - i need to backup my stuff too *panic*

But you are blessed to have the time to do all of that! I can’t even keep my laundry done……
Don’t worry, there are others of us who love organizing too. :)

I can’t believe you’re only 3 months away from meeting your daughter… How exciting! And it will even be in time for you & Dan to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day this year! :)
P.S. If the little turd decides to be late, you can come over to my house and look at MY cupboards. They are so disorganized, it would surely send you into labor!

Oh my GOD! Do I love those organizers or what? I have to go buy them for the new house NOW!
I painted with all three kids, they do not have any extra toes, but Jaden is neuotic, Joey likes to be naked and Aivlene ate dog food.
It’s getting so close! I am so excited for you!

Corrie: haha, yeah but somehow I don’t think that those things have anything to do with you painting while pregnant ;) heehee
We got a big lecture on that stuff at a pregnancy class we took.. the lady went so far as to say that I should LEAVE THE HOUSE while other people painted. Does she not know that I’m a control freak and the stress of leaving people alone in my house to paint it would be worse than any minor fumes I’d inhale from latex paint?!?!?!
And the organizers… love them. They were pricey though- $20 each! I even looked at Walmart and Target and online… I couldn’t find them any cheaper. And when I needed 5 of them, I was a bit worried about the price. But after putting them in (and using some gift cards to help with buying them) I don’t care if they were $1million each… I want to go buy more!!!!!!!!

Not that I condone drinking while pregnant, but people do that, and their babies turn out fine. And if you’re using latex paint, you aren’t going to kill your baby. People are WAY too quick to freak out about things these days when it concerns pregnancy/birth.

Okay, maybe you should leave the house if, say, you were painting ENTIRE houses EVERY DAY & didn’t ventilate anything at ALL.
However, in her defense, the lady from the pregnancy class has to worry about liability & all that stuff so she’s gonna be extra super cautious in what she tells you.
You already know baby’s going to be just fine! Oh, and I’m jealous of your three months to go - six months seems like an eternity still!!

I think I share your organizing illness because I LOVE me some organizing. LOVE. IT.

ugh, trent and i both had the weird stomach bug over the new year’s weekend as well. and don’t worry about painting while you’re pregnant. when my mom was pregnant with my sister, they were renovating a lot of our house, so there was always the fresh smell of paint, etc….My sister didn’t turn out TOO weird. :)
