in which I make excuses

Slacker blogger alert!

I know I’ve been a bit absent lately… and when I do post, it’s stupid crap. And I’m fully aware that I STILL haven’t finished the Italy recaps (1 day left!) which is sad considering it’s been almost 2 months since we LEFT for the trip! I’m usually not this lazy, I swear!

So last week. I haven’t told you the ridiculousness of last week. Dan got food poisoning for the 4th of July! He pulled back muscles from being so violently ill! We got an $80 gift certificate (to a different restaurant) as a consolation prize! Our air conditioner that we replaced almost exactly a year ago started acting funny! We got it fixed! We went to a wedding! Dan continued fighting with Dell about our broken laptop that they refuse to fix, even though thousands of other people have the SAME PROBLEM and there are TWO class action suits about the issue! We took the kitties to the vet last night! (what a couple of drama queens, let me tell you..) (and yeah I know that’s not from last week, but whatever.)

Whew. And on top of all of that, there was the usual life stuff. We have 2 more weddings coming up, so our weekends are completely insane right now. And work and work and we’re having a party in August where something like 50 people are coming to my HOUSE and WHERE WILL THEY PARK?!?! But we couldn’t just pick certain people to come over so the hell with it, bring them all! And of course I have a list a mile long of things I want to do around the house before I have people over, because I am my mother’s daughter and what if THEY SEE ALL THOSE SCUFF MARKS ON THE WALL, I must touch up the paint! And clean the windowsills! And wash the windows! And put more pictures up! And get new blinds! (to replace the ones that have been eaten by the cats) And get a door for the laundry room so we can attempt to keep the funk of cat litter contained if people decide to congregate downstairs, now that we have couches down there. So much to DO!

So yeah. This is why I shouldn’t have people over, because it just turns into a long long list of stuff I want to do that I simply don’t have time for, given the 2 jobs I’m doing thing. It’s getting ridiculous.

And that is my pathetic attempt at explaining why I haven’t been writing more interesting posts.

(hey, I said it was a pathetic attempt, not a good one.)

Thanks for the update! If I didn’t have time to blog at work I’d never be around!

My to-do lists always get so long too, when I entertain. I CANNOT have people in my house if the floor isn’t swept, or if there’s dishes sprawled over the counter. Blech. I feel so ashamed when people just POP IN. I’ve had it happen to me twice when the house looked lived in…

Anyway, I don’t know what your Dan is like, but my Dan doesn’t like helping me clean very much. So when I have a long list of stuff to do, I write it all down on our dry-erase board on the fridge, and give him some simple tasks that doesn’t seem much like cleaning. Like, “move boxes to the basement”, “swiffer the floor” (after I sweep of course), stuff like that. The only problem is that if I think of anything else that he could do to help that wasn’t on the board, I get a bit of grief about it…

Do you give lists to Dan?

Aack…Trent had food poisoning last week as well. I blame it on the salads and food that sat around in the heat when they should have been kept cold. Blech.

So what’s going on with the laptop?? I’m all nervous…I’ve got a Dell laptop.

about the Dell laptop… we have an Inspiron 5160 (I think that’s the number) and apparently there’s a defect with where the plug goes into the back- it can come loose from the motherboard, which renders the computer completely USELESS! This happened to us in Italy (we actually thought it was something to do with the European converter at first, but after some research and about a month of not knowing, we think we figured out the problem)

To make a long story short (or at least try!) after Dan spent about 6 hours on the phone over a few week period, getting shuffled back and forth and being told there was nothing that could be done because we didn’t purchase the extended warranty (even though we are LEASING THE COMPUTER) then told it would be $300 to replace the motherboard, then Dan was given a FALSE NUMBER by a manager… he ended up finding out on the internet about the 2 class action suits about this same exact problem. And apparently Dell is doing nothing to help anyone who has the computer- no recalls, no replacement parts, nothing. And interestingly enough, everyone was perfectly nice on the phone UNTIL he mentioned the model and the problem- then suddenly it was all ‘Well you didn’t purchase the warranty, we can’t help you’. SO. He filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, a woman from Dell called on Saturday to try to convince Dan it was OUR fault that their computer fell apart. Needless to say that conversation got pretty heated- the woman was talking right over Dan and wouldn’t let him finish his sentences! RUDE!!!! Right now it’s at a local computer place and they’re trying to fix it for us- Dan bought the replacement part online for $40, so hopefully that’s the issue and it will be resolved.

Either way… Dell is never ever ever ever getting business from us again. We still have about a year left on the lease, then after that they can kiss my butt! Hopefully you have a different Dell- apparently the other models are fine, they’ve fixed the problem. But their customer service has been HORRID. THEY SUCK.

Hi, I just passed your blog and wanted to tell you that the Dell Inspiron settlement has actually been resolved. Here’s a link to the attorney handling it:
