I think I finally know which way is up again

oh, where to begin?

This weekend kicked our asses. Twice. Yesterday I spent all day cleaning… like SIX HOURS. I cleaned like I’ve never cleaned before… I even got up by the ceiling and dusted our ceiling fan in our bedroom, and dusted the tops of all of our hanging pictures. I hadn’t cleaned in 4 weeks. Yeah I know- EW. But now this place is sparkling, baby.

Dan spent the morning putting together my birthday present, which I LOVE.

We got a mattress 4 years ago when we got married, and it came with a cheap, crappy metal frame. And that’s all we’ve had since then. Let’s just say it was getting very squeaky and even when the cat jumped up on it, it moved across the wood floor and made TONS of noise. So we are very excited about this :) Plus, it looks great in our room. Ikea rocks, baby.

(and yes, I just ended 2 paragraphs in a row with ‘baby’. I’m that cool and hip.)

After the marathon cleaning, I took the night off and we watched Red Eye, which was actually quite good. Then I crashed in bed (the new one!) and slept like a baby.

(wow, I did it again with the ‘baby’ thing, and I SWEAR I wasn’t planning that.)

Today was more work. Our garage door broke a few weeks ago and rather than fix it right away, we put it off. We have a 2-car garage, and luckily it was the door we rarely use (Dan parks his car in the driveway and that side of the garage houses his 1952 MG Midget he plans on fixing someday… hopefully before we both leave this earth. AHEM.) Anyway, in the process of us trying to fix the door today, I smashed my husband’s finger and there were tears. Not his, of course. MINE. I’m probably the only person who could smash someone else’s hand by accident and start crying about it, and then the injured person ends up consoling ME. Is that backwards? I just got scared because he was yelling and was afraid to even look at his hand for a few seconds and all I could think was ‘I just cut off Dan’s finger with the door’ and how I would never forgive myself. When I realized he was okay and it was just a small cut (thankfully he has quick reflexes and pulled his hand out in time), I was relieved… then the tears came. It was all very comical afterwards, of course. And now he’s making up a big story to tell everyone about how I tried to off him for the life insurance money. Don’t believe him.

We did eventually fix the door and all is well. But we are going to hide behind the door for a few days when opening it with the automatic opener, just in case.

Then I had to actually do some real work, you know, for money. It was a gorgeous afternoon and I refused to waste it away sitting inside in our cave of an office, so I took the laptop out on the deck and set up a little station. It was pretty much impossible to see the screen clearly because of the sunshine, but who am I to complain about the sun? LOVE IT.

The rest of the day was filled with laundry and cleaning/scrubbing out the fridge, putting the rest of my clothes back into our closet (we JUST finished putting the new shelves in last week- that was a month-long project that was supposed to take 2 days), making dinner, etc etc. I’m exhausted but satisfied. I finally feel caught up and organized again. These past few weeks were ridiculous. I even made my grocery list TODAY, instead of on the way to the store after work. Totally Organized Jen.

But check back in a few days. Things will probably be a mess again soon!

The new bed is beautiful! I wish I could get so caught up on housework… but I think I could spend 3 days straight and wouldn’t be done.

I loooove that bed frame! I had seen that one in the catalog a long time ago and really wanted it but then went with the wooden one we have now. I still love that one though!

    1) Your comment about “not planning” to mention the word “baby” is pretty funny on its own! :)

    2) When we first started dating, Dan always used to shave his head instead of getting haircuts. When I asked him to grow it out, he agreed but did not agree to going to a barber regularily, or, ever for that matter. So I took it upon myself to give him a hair cut once in a while. Well, needless to say, one unfortunate haircut happened, where I snipped part of his ear. It kept bleeding and bleeding, and I was a mess. That was the very last haircut I ever gave…

    3) We had really crappy weather this weekend. It piss-poured Sat & Sun straight. We couldn’t do anything outside, even if we wanted. The only comforting thought for me was that April Showers are good for my growing flowers! :)

argh, it rained here too. It was gorgeous here all last week and then when the weekend came, so did the rain. BLAH! Sunday was nice for most of the day though, thankfully.

haha and that is a good one with the baby and the planning… heh. Subconscious, maybe? :) haha

I joked with Dan that I must really love him and this proves it, because I was so shaken up about almost chopping his finger off. What a freak I am!

yup :) We’re leasing it at the moment, until October when we can buy it for $1 or trade it in for a new one. We realized when I started my freelance work that we were going to be fighting over the (desktop) computer we had, so it was time to get another one!

Wow. Cleaning. It’s something we never do because I like to say we’re too “busy” what a laugh. The new bedframe is super-cute, baby. (hehehe). Love the laptop too :)
