Last Wednesday night, Dan and I headed over to my cousin’s house for a sort of ‘Baby Lesson’. Her and her husband have an adorable 7-month old baby girl, lots of stuff they don’t need anymore that they’ve generously offered to let us borrow, and tons of useful advice. And they give it in that non-annoying, This Is What We Did But Maybe It Won’t Work For You But You’re More Than Welcome To Steal Our Ideas way that most people can’t seem to manage when it comes to babies. A lot of times with people, it’s more of a This Is What We Did And You’re Crazy If You Don’t Take Our Ideas And Write Them Down Word For Word, Go Ahead, I’ll Wait While You Get A Pen. Their advice that night on bottles and cribs and stroller travel systems and baby baths and diapers… was MUCH appreciated. I left their house feeling a lot better than I did a few weeks ago when I had a minor panic attack over how confusing strollers are. Though I think the panic attack was made worse by the fact that I had the Cold From Hell and hadn’t slept more than 3 hours a night in days.

One of the things in our booty that we brought home was a breast pump. First of all- saving me over $200, HUZZAH! But my favorite part? Was when Dan lifted up his shirt and let my cousin TRY IT OUT ON HIM. I didn’t know whether to laugh at the hilarity of seeing the father of my child with his nipple in a breast pump and the look on his face as it stretched it to almost 2 inches, or cry as I imagined my own sore nipples being sucked into the machine.

I chose to laugh, because really- it was damn funny.

Yeah, my little two cents…go with one of those travel system strollers, it’s easier. You can ignore that if you want!
I will also be breastfeeding with this baby….I’m nervous because of my last experience. The pump scares me as well!

I think we will be going with a travel system! :) My only concern was how long the baby would be able to use the infant carseat, but I think even a few short months will be worth it! Those things are just so cool!

Some people use the infant seat until the kid is a year, others use it for a shorter amount of time. I used Aivlene’s until she was about seven months old and then we went to a bigger one, because, dude, it gets HEAVY. That’s my advice.

Whenever I would pump, Jon would get freaked out. He didn’t like to see my “girls” get manhandled.

I laughed when you said that Dan tried out the breast pump…that is too funny! What is that man thinking?! :)

HAHAHA! :D What a sight that must have been! And what a huge help that you get all the baby stuff and the good non-rammed-down-your-throat advice.

From my experience (you don’t have to write this down ;) )– It looks painful, but the breast pump was totally a gift from heaven for me. I had a manual one. It stopped the horrible engorgement, it allowed George to bond with the baby by feeding him a bottle of the expressed milk, and it was a LOT more gentle to my poor nipples than Oliver was. We still call him “the Hoover” for a reason!!!

You have an amazing and brave husband. I know mine wouldn’t want his girls to be defaced ;)
