When we got to Rome on the first official day of our trip, I wanted to call home just to say “Hey, our plane didn’t crash violently into the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of the night, we made it in one piece!” But we didn’t know where to buy a phone card and we’d only been in a foreign land for like an HOUR and weren’t yet comfortable with the whole language thing, so rather than attempt ask someone by using gestures and loud talking I thought, oh I’ll just follow these English instructions on our room phone and use my credit card. How much could it cost for just a few minute phone call across the ocean? I mean, it’s 2006- emailing across the ocean is free! A phone call shouldn’t cost THAT much.
Oh, ye of little knowledge.
I swear, I was only on the phone with my dad for like FOUR MINUTES. I watched the clock! I pretty much just said ‘Buongiorno from Italy!‘ (because I’m sooo funny like that!) and said we made it and we were in our hotel room and all was well. My dad said great, your mom will be sad she missed your call but she’s over at your house right now, checking on the cats. I said oh well tell her we said hello and we’ll try to email later this weekGOTTAGO,DAD!BYE!
I looked at our credit card bill last night. Take a guess how much the call was.
If you guessed $39.91, you were correct.
