‘pupil’ is such a funny word

Yesterday I went to the optical center at Target (I had a coupon! Yay!) And if you read my entry about my poor, poor glasses, you will surely be proud that I finally got my butt to the doctor to look at new ones. Of course, I am the Queen of Indecision, so I haven’t actually chosen a pair yet. But I have to go back next week to pick up my contacts, so I’ll be taking Dan with me to get his opinion.

I’ve always been very boring with my eyeglass choices. I make the safe purchase, sticking with metal frames in neutral colors. Nothing overpowering, something simple. After browsing the choices yesterday, I was thorougly confused and had no idea what I wanted. I always think I’ll pick something a little different and new, but I chicken out and worry that people will laugh at me and think, ‘Dude you totally can’t pull that off, don’t even try.’ I’m a glasses wimp.

I have it narrowed down to two frames: one that is similar to the link up there (but not a designer name, of course) and one that is boring and metal but sensible. Hopefully Dan will help me when he comes along and not just laugh when I put on the sort-of-funky ones. I kind of like them.

Part of my adventure yesterday was getting these drops in my eyes that numbed them and dilated my pupils so that the doctor could easily see inside my eye and make sure everything was healthy. It took about 15 minutes before my eyes were completely dilated and BLACK and bloodshot, I looked like I was high or something. During the waiting time, I looked at glasses… and by the time the 15 minutes were up, I was dizzy as can be and couldn’t focus on much (and I just kept thinking- is it safe to drive like this? And I have to buy shampoo and a card after this! Are people going to stare?!?!) She said it would last for about 3 hours… and I might want to wear my sunglasses when I got outside, even though it was cloudy. Boy she wasn’t kidding! I walked outside and felt like a freaking vampire or something! My eyes BURNED from the light. And I’m pretty sure the checkout lady thought I was on drugs.

Dan was kind of freaked out by them too, even though they had gone down a little once I got home. It reminded us of one time in college when I was having a bad allergy day, but just in one eye. I put in those allergy drops, just in that eye.. and it must have a similar effect to what the doctor used because my pupil got HUGE. And just that one eye… so I looked like a freak and Dan was totally bothered by it. So naturally I kept staring at him with my big pupil and making goofy Monster Noises. Good times.

I like the funky glasses too–I think you could totally pull them off. :)

Having worked for an ophthalmologist for 3 1/2 years, and having my eyes dilated once a year myself, I know how weird it is. People hardly notice on me because my eyes are very dark brown. But oh my God, going out into any daylight that isn’t the complete black of a moonless night is AWFUL. Thankfully we had nifty “reversal drops” at work that made the dilation go away faster. You might want to ask next time and see if they have them. Unless it’s too much fun freaking out your husband… hehe. ;)

I love the glasses that you linked to! I have similar ones, but darker. The shape would look really cute on you.

When you have terrible eyes like I do, you get used to all the funky procedures. My husband is terrified of going to my eye doctor because he thinks they will poke and prod him like they do with me. Hehe.

I think you should opt for the funky glasses..sometimes change can be fun. You can totally pull them off if you think you can pull it off. It’s all about believing you can, plus I think they would be great on you.

I, too, thin funky glasses would be great. I thin I’m going to go that direction when I buy new glasses later this year. Mine are too safe and normal and just aren’t cute enough to run around wearing outside the house…I’ve never had them dialate my eyes before and I hope they never do. Yikes!

Lol.. I hate those tests. The last one I did this year was done at night… That was the first time I was able to get an evening appointment, but let me tell you how much BETTER it was to walk outside and not cringe from the light. The only funny thing was that Dan and I went out to a Greek Restaurant right after and I couldn’t read the menu. AT ALL. It was nuts. Luckily I’m just a souvlaki and rice kinda person. If I had to actually look at the menu to decide, I’d be skrewd. :P

I *hate* getting my eyes dilated. I have had bad eyesight all my life so it has happened several times. So when I went to my eye doc last year and he said that they had this new thing where they take a digital picture instead of dilating but it cost an extra $50, I said, sign me up, I don’t care about the price. It it is a lovely, peaceful thought knowing I never have to get my eyes dilated ever again! :)

Be a little daring, try something different! Glasses totally change your whole look. I get a different pair every time I er, get a new pair. My current ones: http://www.iris-spectacles.co......PR-16G.jpg

I’m a total nerd, I just love to wear my glasses. :)

I like the funky ones. Mine are from target and they look like those so I’m guessing you may be looking at something similar to what I have (though I got mine 3 years ago.) I like them because they are all plastic (may not be the same in your case for the ones you like) But the upside of that… NO LOSING SCREWS. :)
