crossing crap off my list

I have a list on the side of the fridge. Two of them, actually. One is a ’stuff to do’ list, the other is a ‘wish list’ of things to buy. Both lists are related to the house of course. Because ever since we bought the thing, it’s been one project after another! Not that I’m complaining, because let’s be honest: we all know I love making lists and completing projects and crossing things off the list on the fridge. I’m sick in the head like that.
Anyway, back in November we started on yet another big project: our main bathroom. It has taken quite a while to finish it because we could only squeeze the work in between work and school and freelance jobs and basically LIFE. Slow going, but this weekend we finally finished!
The first thing we did was the tub and shower. This was the only thing we didn’t do ourselves in the room, both because of time and because I don’t think we’d have known what the heck we were doing. So we hired the nice people at Bathfitter to come and make our icky tile surround and nasty tub with ruined, moldy finish all nice and new and pretty. They did a fabulous job and it was totally worth the money, in our opinion. One day and it was done. (Of course, in May when I pay the bill, remind me it was worth it!)
This is the before picture… although it doesn’t look that bad in this picture. Just trust me- it was pretty gross. I wasn’t putting my butt on that tub if you paid me.
This is the after. Look at the shiny goodness! Clean! And new! I totally took a bath in it.
Then it was on to the walls. First we had to remove the old wallpaper and tile backsplash. And let’s just say that taking tile off of drywall does not a fun job make (I think I screwed that up, it sounded better in my head) We ended up having to repair large chunks of the wall, especially to the right of the sink. Pain in the butt and lots of spackle!
Here’s a picture of Dan cutting out the bad part of the wall.. looks like fun, huh?
We also replaced the sinktop and faucet before painting the walls. Then after the walls came the paint… and after the paint came the floor. It all is over much quicker in this paragraph than in real life, I promise. I feel like I’ve been working on this bathroom since I was born.
In any event… here are the final before and after pictures. ta-DA!
So. What’s next on the list? Cleaning out the ‘messy room’, which is filled with various things like empty boxes from stuff we’ve bought that need thrown out, stuff we never unpacked when we moved in, tools, clothes to give away, cleaning supplies, a dresser, a closet full of bridesmaids dresses and dress clothes I never wear, a couple of different vacuum cleaners.. you get the idea. It’s one of those rooms where it’s dangerous to open the door without proper protection, otherwise you might step on something painfull or have something fall on your head when you open the closet. It’s my shame room. And its days are numbered!
